Help needed....have read all other threads but can anyone recommend replacement speakers for front and back 3 door freelander. I seem to be going round in circles......it's doin my head in!!!!

I have a Sony xplod head unit but would like to upgrade the speakers...nothing to fancy.....:doh::doh:

just fancy some new speakers......but not sure what to buy....

The speakers are 6 1/2" if I remember correctly. The down side is there isn't enough depth in the door to accommodate really good speakers. If you do get them to fit, you will probably find that the doors rattle which completely ruins the sound quality anyway.
This is why I went down the sub woofer route ;)
This is what I did.

Mine didn't need any mods and I have a 12 kicker as well. Wish I can take a pic of it put I'm down in LA right now. Homes in Santa Cruz.

Think mine are 6.5" 200W 3-way JVC.
Have had no problems with depth , just had to drill 4 holes and use self tapping screws to secure them in.
Kept the foam sticky seal from the original speakers to ensure they didn't rattle.

With my Pioneer head unit they sound amazing. My boot is always full of clothes and welly boots so no room for a sub, but this combination of head unit and speakers puts out plenty of oomph to shake car next to me at the lights!

Ah, at last, a pic of the 3 door REAR speakers! Any idea of the room behind the speaker and how much in front of it between the speaker and the trim cover? I'm contemplating fitting a pair of 8" Pioneer free air subs I have from waaaaay back in there if there's room using spacer rims. Do you think there would be clearance space? Anyone got a pic of one with the speakers out? Ta!

I was thinking on drilling [carefully] in front of the rear speakers. advice- i would personally use the body from the factory speakers as an adapter saves drilling into the body

There is a fair bit of room behind the rear speakers. Not much clearance between the front and the trim grill though.

Good idea to use the original speaker plastic surround. I didn't because I'll remove the speakers and replace with the originals if I get rid of the car.

aah fair point. mine were knackered so i could. if i get rid, i'll take them dls's out just the same and fit some old pioneers i got lying somwhere

This is probably a fairly obvious question but with the standard head unit in place will replacing just the speakers make any significant difference? I am happy to purchase 4 decent speakers, but if the head unit is not capable of pushing enough power out to improve the sound quality, would it be a waste of money?
