The BIG problem with replacement keys is the one I have! That is, I only got one key with my car, BUT, Landrover in their wisdom, stuck a silly sticker on the fob, which by the time I had it, had long-gone!!
So what key do I have?? I don't know, so what key do I order?? I don't know that either, nor do landrover!!!
I read somewhere that keys 1, 2 & 3 are slightly different colours, but since I have only one, again, what to order!!
What I DO know is that if the WRONG key is ordered, i.e. the same as you already have, it won't work either!!
My personal ONLY answer is to find some kind RR owner with all 3 keys is to compare mine with his, any takers??
NO key bought second-hand will EVER work or be re-programmed to suit any other RR
Even giving Landrover my key will not enable them to supply the replacement, I/you HAVE to know the existing key number, what a bummer:-(

I have Key 1 and Key 2 for mine, apart from the lable they are identical.

there must be a way of reading the key chip?it must be programmed so there is a way in...

As you say, there must be a way of reading the key chip, it's just a matter of having the time and the equipment to do it.

I suspect that the key chip is one time programmable so even if you have the kit it would not be possible to re-program. One day if I get a duff Fob I will look into it, not going to experiment with my good ones:eek:

ok so I agree its got a chip.If ya chip a dog you scan it...........

Sure you can read the output of the Fob, but then you have to work out what it means, it's a rolling code so every time it's different, not easy. Also the Fob receives as well as transmits in order to maintain synch with the car. Watch the little LED in the Fob, it lights briefly when you put the key in the ignition. Scanning a dog is easy, just a large fixed number and a machine designed to read it:D
