Thor good call about the Cooper's. I replaced my Scorpions twice with same type within 30,000 miles..... I may just go for Cooper's next time!

had coopers for 20 years and have bought 2 different sets when money was tight and got bite in the arse each time, bad warranty and wore out quickly(tread life) get between 60-70k on a set of coopers with rotation with each oil change 6k miles. So I am partial to cooper :)

:welcome2: to the mad house ,dont be put off by the barking dogs

tyres,,,, i have only ever fitted goodyear wranglers, as these were the ones on when i bought it , they suit my needs, and last ones cost £75 each fitted,

- does anyone have experience of the following "All-Season" tyres on a Freelander 1, 3 door, pre-facelift, TD4 [2003] please? The first two are mid-price, whilst the latter is a "cheapie" [I can't believe tyre prices now]. If the latter is any good at its job, it only has to last 2/3rds as long as the more expensive ones to pay for itself. My wheels are 225x55x17 and my driving is 80% road, 20% muddy, inclined track [snowy, muddy, inclined track at the moment]. The Cooper CS4 have a great review but no-one on here seems to use them. The Vector 4 Seasons come out slightly worse but still good. The Star Performer SPTS AS have surprisingly good comments/scores for the price but I don't want to introduce lots of road-noise or shake, rattle and roll to the car.

The other influencing factor is that I don't do many miles [7000 a year], so I'd be stuck with the decision for a long time. So, the choices are:-

* Cooper CS4 Touring at £136 each [fitted]
* Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons at £141 each [fitted], rated "C", "E" and "70" [although why it has an "E" for wet grip but otherwise good marks for wet grip is beyond me]
* Star Performer SPTS AS at "only" £88 each [fitted], rated "E", "C" and "71"

Thanks very much for any input. Cheers, Steve

I'm running the Star Performer SPTS AS 225/55 R17 101H XL winter tyres on mine at the moment. Superb tyre, not noisy, great grip. Thoroughly recommend them.

I agree
I drove my Ford Maverick (re-badged Nissan Terrano) for 60,000 miles on a set of Cooper ATs. I then changed them for a set of Cooper STTs which I used for 50,000 miles before I sold the car. Those tyres still had 6 mm of tread when I sold it. Coopers really do massive miles and so are well worth the slightly higher price ;)

Obviously, I've already searched the InterGoogle exhaustively, which is how I came across those tyre options to ask about. I didn't just dream up the alternatives, or gain the info by some kind of osmosis. The whole point of a Forum is to exchange views/ideas/knowledge. Since I'm a newcomer to the Freelander I have no valuable expertise to offer in return yet but if you want help on a BMW Rockster [or Suzuki V-Strom, or Yam Tedium, or many other bikes going back to the 1960's], I'll happily help you where I can in return for your valuable insight. Mind you, you'd probably join a biking forum appropriate to your new ride and ask there!

Sorry to offend you by not introducing myself but I thought it was a Land Rover Forum, not a dating agency. Don't worry though, I'll try not to trouble you again.

Very great thanks though to those of you who have tried to help through the noise.

Cheers, Steve

Hi Steve,

Your more than welcome to stay on the forum and I hope you do. Just ignore the grumps, they sometimes forget to take their happy pill's before turning on their PC's lol. They have got hearts of gold really and lots and lots of knowledge and experience with regards to Freelanders, so don't be put off, bung them a couple of sweets now and then and they'll come round. LOL
