Some odd issues with an 02 TD5 Defender

Not done yet, was planning on moving it into the cubby box/bulkhead behinde me.

Though someone posted up a link on just sealing some holes on the ECU itself makes it waterproof, dont have 100% faith in that idea though.

The link was from devon4x4 and the guy who said sealing it up is the owner od gigglepin4x4, he definitely knows his ****. Saying that, im yet to follow that advice and do it and yes it does sound rather dodgy. But Jim strips his truck down after each event i think. The real world dosent have that ability. :lol:

Im going to have a look and see if my ECU cables will reach a bit further so i can mount mine on the bulkhead.

have a word with mad hat man about extended cables for this problem.he makes and sells them if i remember correctly.;):D
 
Haha Ginga then you think as I, man may know his **** but I want everyday running with minimal worries!


Ill have a word see what he says, as long as its less than bloody £250! and works as it should!

hi,like i said earler,have a word with mad hat man,he knows his stuff and manufactures these extended cables so you can move the ecu to a safer place.:D

From memory the main one from the battery goes to the chassis and then on to the transfer box casing. There is another one from the footwell to the chassis and then there is a kind of earth multiplug behind the coolant header tank. There may be some more but that's the only ones I can think of at the sec.
 
Right well I found the ECU, the battery earth and the multiplug. ECU cleaned up and re-attached, multi plug I cant get to without taking the coolant box out.

Battery one is a a little rusty and mucky but looks alright - Though If it was that earth causing the problem wouldnt the car just refuse to start?

Havnt found the footwell ones or the transfer casing one yet.


Out of all the wretched earth points which is the most likely to be using the handbreak cable?
 
Out of interest anyone know round about how much it would cost to get this done at a garage like Dakar 4x4?


Also if I can't find the bad earth would adding new ones in various places solve the issue?

Been out all day in the frickin snow looking for more earths. I found another! Either transmission or gearbox earth. Took it off cleaned it up, sealed some some copper grease.

Then the battery to chassis came off, cleaned. Then the chassis to transmission (I think) started to undo the large bolt it was conected to which seemd to be on an opposing thread nut which I not cant do back up for some reason!!

However since cleaning my fog light switch works now where it never did before.

Though I have rung an auto sparks whos coming down tomorrow, so with any luck the bastard will run.
