you get it home and want to service it. call it peace of mind servicing!

but apart from the usual oil, oil filter, diesel filter and air filter what esle would you change ?

i was chatting to a mate with a 4X4 sapphire and he suggested the gear box oil ,diff oils and brake fluid. is this not excessive ?

what would you guys reccommend and where do you get your materials fom, online ?

cheers

Just given mine a basic serivce, had it a couple of weeks. Personally i'm gona work my way through all the diff/gearbox/swivel pin/ oils as and when i get round to it.
They could have been done 100 miles ago or 20000 miles ago. At least if you do em ya know for sure;)

Edit: local motor factor for ya oils. Got a bearmach filter kit and new washer off ebay for £15.

No. Dosn't need to be done in one day, but certainly I'd do it sooner than later, certainly within a month. How do you know there's even oil in the diffs? If it's been off-roaded at all then it's possible the diff oils might have some mixture of water in there too ...

I worked out what we could afford, what we could easily do ourselves, then got a local indepoendant LR garage to do it for us the first week of ownership of this Disco .. £400 including timing and serpentine belts, complete clean of engine bay, all oils, filters including sedimenter, everything looked at and list of parts required after. 1 UJ and donut was all it needed, and they were only recommendations to be looked at! I also watched them do it and picked up a few tips .. ;)

i'll get the oil and diff oil from my local motor factors but i was hoping to hear there's a good ebay site that does oil filter, air filters etc cheap and they are reliable or a site member who offers this service.

no worries i'll just find some on ebay.

i would recommend changing your brake fluid if you dont know when it was last done , apart from the ridiculously expensive gear , most standard brake fluids are hydroscopic - they absorb water , even the water in the ambient air which reduces their effectiveness, my mechanic mate reckons you should change the brake fluid every 3 years...

Within first couple of weeks gearbox oil and diff oils. New battery as existing one was flat and needed jumping. Inspection of brake pads/discs. Following month changed the coolant.
