So diff pegging was a waste of time!

It's a toy! If you can't have fun it it a risk breaking something then what's the point. It literally goes anywhere...untill it breaks. I have a work truck that I use most days and I have never broken a diff or halfshaft in that ever!

My questions wasn't why is my diff breaking, it was what else can I do to strengthen front axle.

Lets get something straight....I know nothing....

but, would a few rubber doughnuts in the drive train such as there is on the Discovery series one be helpful to reduce the shock loading you seem to be suffering from....chances are you'll get through a few but they are a cheaper option than a diff rebuild and in theory a quick field change!

This is good thinking, I will do it and let you know. Never even thought about it but seems like a good idea

You need more than I dial gauge to build a diff,

what tyres are you running?
What shafts and cv joints are you running?
What engine do you have?

I have broken lots of drive shafts including 1 Ashcroft cv, the only diff failur I've had on 3 occasions was the pinion bearing failing due to my props,

I ran a rear Detroit locker with standard shafts and standard crown and pinion and don't smash anything, all the front shafts have been down to a trutrac lsd or my arb locker, all had standard crown and pinions not broke then tho,

99.9% of Diffs or shafts failing that I have seen have been down to drivers abusing them,

Oh yeah, there's no denying the diff gets a world of abuse, standard 24spline front axle with 4 pin pegged diff, 52" chevron tyres. Perkins 4236 and rangie 4 spd box

I rekon it must have, never had the bearing go before but would definatly allow the pinion to move out of mesh when it went

have a 4.7:1 coiler sals with a detroit locker installed for sale pretty bomb proof but no gurantee's with those tyres!

Someone is selling a set of Ashcroft force 9 axles on d44, but Ashcroft might not warranty anything with them tyres.

Tyres that big and aggressive are ALWAYS going to break something on any standard Land Rover set up.

Looks capable as hell though. When it's working. :D

Mates got a td5 90 hybrid turbo bla bla bla and its got some grunt, he has smashed hd crown and pinions ripped a prop off BUT he has giving it death with the lockers in, oh and he blew and arb diff to bits.
