Snorkel Air Filter

i wound a screw into mine... lol...

Whats that vacuum for ? Isnt it just the EGR ? I have run without the tube on for long periods with EGR habitually blanked .....????

Yeah. I put a golf tee in mine 'just in case' .. I hate leaving pipe ends open ..

Mines been blanked off for longer than I care to remember - but I do have another very thin pipe that maybe comes from the cruise control that went into the air box. Haven't done anything with this pipe yet, apart from sticking it out the way.

You can see it here circled red, and the top circle is where it connected to the original air box.



I might once I am finishing off the snorkel put a little hole in the flexi tubing and seal it in there so at least no water can get in it, or is there something better to do with this pipe??

Dont know if you have found a solution but this is what I done. I have got a southdown snorkle and about 2m of flexipipe, I got totally rid of my airbox and fitted one of these:

I used the pipe that went to the turbo, cut it back a bit and it basically runs between the engine and wheel arch. I have still got my ABS and also a second battery fitted. I will try and get a pic tonight if you want...

Nah I didnt read it all, after the first few pages I skipped to the end, should prob have given it a few more pages of reading first

It does look almost identical to my setup yeah, its worked for me pretty well, the only thing is its not a removable filter media and a bit awkward to clean but thats nothing that major to worry about...

Just out of curiosity how have you made sure that water will not get in? Stu

Haven't done anything just yet, as waiting to finish off the whole of my snorkel project (waiting for more deliveries) before making all seals completely water tight with sealant, but so far its a damn sight better than the air box I had in, as that was open and with lots of holes drilled in the sides and bottom, as the air intake was blocked by the 2nd battery.

Plus the piping for the cold air now comes in via the inner wing, and at a higher point than the existing intake which helped me a lot at Salisbury at the weekend

Yeah, I searched around for an old 200 air box or something similar, and nothing seemed to turn up, or at a decent price, so in the end went for this option. It has made the turbo whistle more audible, or it could just be the air being sucked in from the inner wing since its not on the snorkel part yet , but at least I know its working.....

Don't go to salisbury on your todd as it was pretty wet and slippery to say the least but great fun all the same

Na made the mistake of doing some on me tod things before but I'm better equipped now.

I know all about the place been over all of it in a wolf fun thing about the army is I can prity much go where I like when there on exercise so long as I look at the daily range sheet and have an EASP with me

This is a DIY snorkel, made it 7 or 8 years ago, large piece of exhaust, mitered and welded, powder coated, standard mushroom top, flexi pipe, tdi air box. And a plenum made for the twin choke webber! Parts came in at about fifty quid

Why thank you I was rather chuffed with it

Finally got round to doing some more on the snorkel...

Got some nice 2.5" steel tubing (as making an exhaust system on our MG ZS 180 ) which is prob over the top as having 3mm wall, but will stand the test of time at least...

Also got a mushroom top, so after bending the pipe into shape, I have welded on the mushroom top...just need to finish of the join, and then ready for painting and installing





Not bad considering the whole snorkel fitment with parts will have cost me under £50.00

Well, now my snorkel is done, been looking at wading kits, as thinking although I dont dunk very often, it will do no harm in having them fitted just in case.....

I have this kit which didn't seem to badly priced...

Any thoughts from people that have fitted wading kits - will this be ok, or is there something else I need to look at?

Also, is it a case of just running the breather pipes up next to the snorkel pipe then poking them into the mushroom top so they are covered up from the elements?
