Hi,

Thought I'd do a proper job on the rear brakes on my Disco 2, new calipers, carriers, flexi pipe, bolts and dust shield. Soaked the 3 little retaining bolts used for the dust shield in loads of plusgas for an hour or so to penetrate through the rust. One bolt came out fine, the other 2 seemed to be turning until.. snap.. broke right off. I guess I should have used loads of heat also.

The holes are ever so slightly partially obscured by the hub flange, so before I pull the hub off and risk damaging the oil seal, in an attempt to drill the broken studs out and run a stud extractor into the holes, can anyone advise on a better way of removing whats left of these tiny bolts?

Never had much luck using the 'easy out' type broken stud extractors, plus drilling such a small diameter hole dead centre isnt going to be easy!

Any hints welcome!

Cheers,

Chris

Is there a way or tacking on a stud then just put a nut on? I'm not sure as I've not looked closely at them but that's the first thing that springs to mind.

There isn't much force on them for most of their lives so it hasn't got to be a top rate weld
