Not sure how/when/why it happened but i've noticed something has snapped off the (plastic inlet manifold??) and now i have a pipe going nowhere floating around in my engine bay. She's not been as fast as she should be recently so was wondering whether this was affecting performance or anything?

When i say not as fast it's absolutely minimal it may even be just me!

Not sure what the pipe is but it leads to a black cylindrical thing near my tool pack.

I've pinched a pic off ebay and put red circles where it's snapped to show where it is.

Would appreciate any insight into what this pipe is/does.

I suspect that it is the way that the ECU measure inlet manifold pressure (or vacumn depending on how you look at it :) ) It will use this to measure engine load versus throttle position for ignition advance/retard......similar to old dizzy vacumn advance.

Why not just glue it back on and see :)

Not sure how that would break off, unless some clumsy service mechanic leaned on it!

some good pointers about the vacuum but that pipe is for the waste fuel emissions.

Technically it is part of the fuel management system, although can be blanked off.

The Lotus Elise boys removed the carbon canister purely for weight reduction and no other reason. Then blanked the pipe off.

I think you would be losing manifold pressure, possibly the loss in power.

Have you tried just capping it? Then test drive

Didn't think about capping it to be honest, and i've just been outside fixing it up before i got to read your post sorry N.I.!

All sealed back up again now after a bit of drilling and screwing and chopping lol.

You can get cable adjusters on bicycles, usually found on mechanical brake levers and in these adjusters are a small adjusting bolt, with a hole right through the center for the cable. I drilled the hole slightly larger to make it the same size as the original hole on the manifold. Then i drilled the hole on the manifold a little bit smaller than the bolt so i could thread my bolt into it halfway. Then the piping slipped straight onto the other half of the bolt and everything was great again (and i have got my power back i think). So job well done over all.

Never mind taking the carbon canister out! I've taken the rear seats out yesterday so i'm left with just front, and OMG it really shifts now! And handles a hell of a lot better! All i've got to do now is pump up my airbed in the back lol.
