I'm in the process of sticking a 19j in my s2a. It's a bit of work but reasonably straight forward. Have had to remove offside mount as it was about 80mm too high and replace front cross member with a bit of 40x40 box to accommodate the power steering relay and fan. Everything else looks like it is going to fit. Will be dropping engine and mount back in this weekend.

Just to update after all the helpful replies and pics (sorry for the delay, not had time to tackle it until yesterday) we took the head off and the pistons had 4 mm of side to side play! Oil was sloshing past them!

So we removed the engine and baught a decent 2.5 na to replace it. Thanks to johnny curt. 1 we followed the pics he put up and we now have a 2.5 na bolted to the gearbox. We had to remove both engine mounts to get the gearbox bolts to marry so the engine is on blocks at the moment and we will be fabricating mounts and welding them on as soon as time allows. I'll try to get some pics up.

We have got the wiring to do and fire her up, is there much difference in 2.25 engine and the 2.5 na wiring? Or should it be a case of following and connecting the old wires as they where on the old engine?

Thanks jamesmartin! for plugging a hole in my basic knowledge (new to this and learning a lot off here and it's greatly appreciated)

Sorry mad hat man I not seen the faq bit but now found it so cheers.

nearly forgot you will need a live ignition feed that doesnt go off when key turned to crank for fuel pump solenoid

Just want to say, you don't have to move the air filter/ battery tray out of the engine bay, it will still fit but might have to be shifted forwards. (Well mines still got the battery under the bonnet anyway) Its probably less work than making a whole new battery tray under the seatbox

The wires are like spaghetti junction some look like they not even in use! What's the main wires to concentrate on? We obv have the starter working but maybe the rest not connected, should we follow wire back from ignition and put a ignition live to pump and glow plugs? Sounds daft but not sure if the engine will stop on the key as the other engine we had to pull a choke type thing to stop it if it starts and revs up uncontrollable how is best way to stop it? Cheers

the way i stopped mine was to leave the air filter hose off the intake manifold and wrap plenty of carpet underlay round the neck of a large coke bottle full of water to bung the intake

when mine did it i pulled the solenoid wire off the fuel pump then wedged the bottle in the air intake and it just died as it was choked to death

one thing though if it does run away on you have a pair of ear muffs at the ready as the emmense noise of this is a major fear factor and int as scary if yet cant hear it

if it does do it remove the oil out of the air intake manifold soon as its been shut down

Thanks for that and the ear muffs is s good idea ! So we obv have it cranking over but no heat to plugs ? Whats the main area to concentrate on in regards to wiring? , also the fuel filter is a different set up with a bolt on top with a pipe coming out of either end and have noidea where the other pipe goes ? There is no were for it to go as the other only had the one pipe on side of bolt I will get some pics up later , cheers
