Had some success today on the list of bits to do on my 300tdi. I decided that as the weather was on the poor side i would fix something that would not hopefully take too long. I knew when i got the car that the fuelling had been messed with by the P.O. I read everything i could on tweeking the pump on the forum last night whilst having a beer and decided to give it a go this morning. I found that the diaphram in the pump had just been turned to give maximum fuelling and nothing else had been tweeked. So following the instructions i found here i tweeked the diaphram back abit, moved the star washer so that it did not put out so much black smoke when accelerating from low revs and adjusted the torx bolt to get a nice clean pull away with as little smoke as possible. It drives so much nicer and now i can drive down the street and not worry about how much money im converting to black smoke!

With the fixing of passenger side door spring last week thats 2 jobs off the ever lenghthening list of items than need attention:D:D:D:D

i must get to looking at this myself.
every time i fire her up there's a puff of black smoke from the exhaust and i've no doubt at all that i must be polluting the environment every time i try to throttle her to take on a hill.
I'm hoping i can reduce the smoke but get a little more power. If that's possible.

I say have a go. Its not that hard to do once you have read up on how to do it and are methodical on your approach. Took me about half hour or so to do and it has made a big difference to the way it drives. Mine however had already been messed with and set up wrong so i thought what the hell i'll give it a go. Still think i have to replace the rings but will do a compression test if the weather is ok tomorrow.

Hi just come across your thread. I have a 300tdi disco with plenty of power an plenty if smoke along with it. The P.O. Seems to have done some tinkering. Was wondering what I need to do to reset the fuel pump back to standard
