Hi, just joined. I have recently bought a 54 plate td4 with 37000 miles. I discovered it was leaking water the other day but topped it up and seems to be okay now, strange.

Whilst doing this there seems to be hose that comes out of the front right hand side of bumper, looks like a breather hose of some sort, that was bellowing smoke out. The car is a bit sluggish at first when stared up and the smoke does not seem to come out if it has been on a run.

Any ideas?

Paul

As above FBH ( fuel burning heater ) -works when temp is below 5 degs and warms engine and cab up quicker .

Just been out and it still seems to be using water, but not a lot and I have not noticed any noticable leaks.

I gather fbh is front breather hose, it just does not look right when it is trowing the smoke out, as it looks quite alot and a few people have pointed it out.

Thanks for the replies, I now know what it is and what it does and after a search on here, will have to fit a switch. regards the swith to turn it off, when do you need it on?

Paul

Hi, having aquired a TD4 you have the best of the Flanders, but they have their own issues. Settle down with a beer/coffee and pencil and paper trawl throught the forum looking for TD4 threads and make a 'to do' list. E.g. EGR bypass- inlet manifold cleanup- lubricate window mechanisms etc. Download 'RAVE' workshop manual via 'greenoval' website. With some straight forward preventative maintainance your vehicle will become a reliable and enjoyable workhorse.D..

As you're on the correct track now re the fbh, the leaking water could be coming from your aircon ?? (After stopping the engine a small puddle of water under the car ????)

Look dude there are loads of tits on hear and you never get a striaght answer. The pipe you see with the smoke is Quite normal, its a pre burner, helps warm things up abit quiker. It will stay on for abit when you turn the engine of if the car is not warmed up and smoke will come out, it is normal. Mine does it!!!!! dont worrie about it, as for the water i dont know, that is a worrie. Just ignore the 80% sad 4x4 geecks on here and you will get some good advice of someone. Hope this helps

if you are topping up the header tank, rather than just noticing a puddle under the vehicle, check the header tank which you are filling up. There are prone to cracking or fracturing, which normally isn't noticable until the engine gets up to temperature.

good luck

You wish it had caused a stir you mean. What's the matter you're Attention Deficit Disorder playing up again? If you want to cause a stir try posting something original. Regurgitating stale old comments that had been done to death when you were still in nappies is boring.
