Disco 2 Smashed and drove off....

So, headed out today, and within 1 minute of leaving the house, got hit on the driver's side front by a car that pulls out from a side street on the right to cross the main road. I move forward and onto pavement to clear the road, they reverse and then speed off. Front of their Vauxhall Insignia totalled - headlamps, bumper, grille, all smashed and hanging off (managed to recover their grille badge if they want it back). Call police, give them the reg number and vehicle type, and "sorry sir, that does not appear on our records".

Damage to mine is the front bumper, bumper quarter cover, alloy wheel and wheel arch trim. The wheel took most of the impact, and fair play to my favourite LR specialist, they popped-it up on the ramp and seems like I have escaped any suspension / steering damage.

Recorded the incident on Met Police website, have crime number. Call insurance... guess what, yes I have protected no claims, but as they cant recover any pay-out to me, it will increase my premium next renewal......

So - I'm now in for a new bumper, quarter bumper cover, painting, wheel refurbishment, wheel arch trim - that's got to be at least £600 if I do it myself...., no idea what damage is hidden under all that plastic.....

Not sure why I am posting this, other than to rant!

Fuggers. I wonder how far they got, I have dash cams in all my motors, so they my be good for facial recognition, good luck on the repair.

Rant away, bastards want knee-capping .. after paying for the repairs.

Are you sure about that ? I'm not sure I understand how the NCB is protected with that exclusion - and unless said clause is in the policy .... it isn't - make them tell you where said clause is!

Hope you get sorted quickly and easily. Hope the scum drive off a cliff.

It's termed by the insurer a disallowed claim or something similar... so they pay out and although it's a no fault, its still against me as a claim..... strangely enough I am enjoying the small print of my policy now, whilst looking at the bay of e for parts.....

@Feathers McGraw - there is a slim chance of that, as they don't have any headlamps......

I'd consider including a wheel in your parts list - given it took the brunt of the impact, it might be cracked ....

( Had a similar impact 18 years ago when a Sierra (!) appeared in front of my D1 - NSF wheel took most of it, got x-rayed, and was very poorly - so a new one got fitted - and a tyre too - "as a precaution )

Hmmm - good point re the alloy, tyres are only 6 weeks old......

Some insurance companies have uninsured driver cover some don't.
My insurance Saga does, and has a comparison in their site of companies (see link) that also do, so I take the policy in question doesn't, or it was an option but didn't take it.

If you have to provide the reg number of the uninsured vehicle, how can you do that if the vehicle has false plates as would appear to be the situation with GJ1's case.

Provided the reg, but can only assume spoof as no record on database. No dash cam. Don't believe mine has uninsured driver endorsement or option for that matter.

I had this a few years back, the case was referred to the MIB, (https://www.mib.org.uk/), they took a while to sort it out with the insurers, but I was covered for loss from an uninsured vehicle accident ...

Yep - have legal cover.... I'll investigate further - really appreciate all the insights and support.

A question you should ask your insurance company is it not, if you correct that you say in having to provide the vehicles registration number... to whom you don't say

Turns out (having checked the DVLA database) that the reg number on the Dark Vauxhall Insignia is in fact a White Ford......

One I sticks on mee’s window.............I haven’t a clue I have 3 all different makes but they all work ok to me that’s all that matters
