Sorry but had to tell somebody : just succeeded in removing the bonnet from the P38 all on my lonesome ! Strung it up through all the holes in the bonnet struts with a long climbing rope to hooks in garage beams: attached end to a passing spouse : undid hinge bolts and drove the Rangie out from below it.
Tara !:high5:

Anybody got any bright ideas for getting the new one on ? Spouse threatening to leave.

I trust you made sure she had a brush in the other hand to give the floor a quick once over while she was she was there!

:D

I got a very good one from ebay (the correct colour too!!) took about 20 mins to do the whole thing (wasn't timing it though) 2 of us doing the job, the only thing i had to do was snip the wire from it (don't know what that did though) and reconnect it, the struts etc were already on the bonnet and the bonnet lock, so it was a very easy job, the bonnet was £50 correct colour had all the bits, and had the Range Rover logo on it (if i bought just that would have come to £60 odd by itself) so all was well

to get bonnet back on, prop it up on two sticks at hinge side and a clothes horse at the lock side, about half way down the garage with the hinge side facing the door.

now, this bit depends on the length of garage and a flat surface but for the average garage take a run up from 91 feet and make sure your travelling at 23.85 mph (this bit is critical) when you hit the sticks. if you have everything correct the bonnet will latch in perfectly just as you come to a stop at the wall at the back of the garage. do make sure there are no oil spills on the garage floor tho!!

Dunno how I'll manage to slow down to 23.85 : it's obvious that you have succeeded with this because I know you wouldn't lie to me. I'll let you know how I get on.
Do you need a saddle on the clothes horse ?
