try a couple of oil changes you can change about 4.5 litres each time
It probably is in top gear (4th) but the gearbox fluid has to be warmed up before the torque converter will lock-up and will give you direct drive (no slipping of the TC, then it's almost like it's gone into a '5th gear' )

If the gearbox oils cold, the torque converter won't lock up. there 's Nowt wrong with it - that's just what they do!
Worth an oil and filter change anyway then you know where you stand (especially if it's new to you!) a lot can be said by the condition of the oil/sump magnet when you service the box.

It will most probably be covered in tiny metal filings/swarf which is perfectly normal wear and year of the gearbox, but there shouldn't be any bigger chunks of metal on it though
