Eyup,
long story short, run my 3.9 disco for 5 days with rear prop off while waiting for a new doughnut. On the fifth day had probs with stalling and cutting out. would run at 2000 rpm plus, then absolute pig to restart.
checked through on saturday, all sensor resistances within tollerances, Fuel in tank, spark, wet plugs.

Shes thumping and banging when turning over but wont fire. Had problems last year when i took dizzy out and buggered timing up...
Checked standard Non-Starting V8 things and timing is about 8 deg. out...
Been looking on ebay and a standard nylon toothed cam pulley has 44 teeth.
When i was at school 360 divided by 44 was 8.8. do you reckon i`ve jumped a tooth?

Cheers

Yep, i checked it by turning it over on starter motor, thats how i came up with 8 deg. Spent most of this morning taking bits off that didnt need to come off, just got crank pulley to crack so i can change timing gear... Not fun working on your own!

Hi.......no it isn't, spent three and a half lonely days out side in the cold trying to strip mine down in the car, only to find it was very poorly.
Just doing the re-build before it goes back in the car as engine just come back from V8 Devlopments.......but had to undo all work i did today and then redo as small metal o-ring from rocker cover gasket fell inside.....

joy oh joy

.....was the engine noisey? I have not heard of any faults with timing chains in these as they tend to be rattly before faults occur....

Eyup, still not got rank pulley off, waiting for mate to come through on saturday so we can do it the 'correct' way.
No it wasnt noisy and it was only changed two winters since but no matter how gently i changed gear there was still a lot of backlash through transmission.
We'll see on saturday when i get sodding crank pulley off.

I know its rare for then to move, but everything checks ok apart from the timing being 8 or 9 deg out, and that it would run at high revs. My moneys on one of the nylon teeth on the cam sprocket having let go ... But until i can get the sodding crank nut off... :-@

Never seen it jump before if you had erratic timing it would be a worn crank gear and cam gear and a stretched chain have had a wood ruff key break once
Is the dissy springing back ok and not seized
Were they non gen ignition parts?

Piston rings have let go, bugger all compression on 4 pots. Looks like scrapping landy, and buying a matiz! ;-(
