Hi guys,

Today I was driving along a grassy lane and hit a tree stump. First it seemed like the car was about to take off (despite not going fast) Then it hit the bracket for the sidestep, which subsequently damaged the sidestep beyond repair. Unfortunately the damage to the sidestep also caused damage to the sill.

I'm a bit ****ed off tbh because all I was doing was driving along a farm track, only to end up with this.

What's the easiest way to fix this?

Cheers

small hole use slide hammer to pull out.
weld hole /fill /paint

Below is the link to the best system I've ever seen (even uses a sill repair as an example) but I'm not sure where you'd be able to hire one. Other options I've seen have involved special studs (look like nails) which are spot welded in place & you use the slide hammer to pull out, then twist off the stud, similar to the drilled hole method but not as destructive.

looks like a job for a 'rospot' stud welder and slide hammer

its what body shops use to pull out dents like that, would take a bodyshop half a day to repair that so you wouldn't know it was ever there

Looks like it will be a costly job considering I can't weld and don't know a man who can. :( It's a pity it's not a bolt on job. Given that it's an area which is at a relatively high risk of getting damaged, you'd think Land Rover would make it easier to fix/replace when it gets damaged.

I really wish I had gotten rid of those side steps earlier now!

I assume there's definitely no easy way to access the inner side to beat it out?

slap on some tread plate, 3dr have corrugated sills, not sure if that makes them any stronger.

I have the alum sills, they are now sprayed black ;)
