side step

The freelander 1 I just aquired has a side step running the length of the doors both sides you can use them for entry to rear ok but the front part seems to sweep in towards the vehicle so all that sticks out is the outer rounded edge of the side step is this normal?? or are they twisted as I suspect?

Hi,

The front part is thinner on some models. Mainly designed to access the roof.

Also they are certainly heavely rusted under the pastic finisher.

But there is nothing really to stand on at the front by the drivers door for example is it possible to get ones that do give a step up so to speak for the shorter driver?

You can find one from bearmach. Can be found on ebay.

It's the exact same on mine, must've been an option on some on them! If you can get a look under the vehicle you can see that's the way they were designed!

The only problem I have on mine is the driver side bracket is nearly rusted though towards the end but I've taken them apart and the rest of it is in good nick!

The tapered side steps are designed so smaller children can access the rear using the steps, but they don't get in the way of adults on the front. Full steps are pointless on the Freelander for adults, as the roof is too low, meaning adults can't use them, so they get dirty trousers stepping over them instead. I've removed them any Freelander I've had which came with them.

Nodge, my experience is similar. Kept getting my work trousers dirty getting in and out of the vehicle. However, I did like the look of them and mine only went after one of the mild steel brackets failed when I stood on the step to wash the roof.

Got the stainless tubes on the new one. They don't stick out and protect the sill plus look ok. They may stay. We'll see.

They would work for me as Iam only 4ft 3inches (hobbit size)

I have ordered a set of normal side steps to replace these ones On another subject Nodge would I have to remove inner door handle to remove the door lock or can I remove it working through theopenings in the door?

The inner door handle can remain in place, as it's riveted to the door frame on some models.
