Hi, I've been a member for a while but have lurked and looked things up using the search facility, but never posted so I thought it was time to remember my manners and say hello. :)

My name's Helen and I'm in my late 30s (which is obviously nowhere near 40! ;) ) and in August this year, I became the proud keeper of a B reg Landy 110 .called Laura ... I say keeper rather than owner because she definitely owns me!

I have loved Landys since I was a child and had an ambition to marry a farmer! :D Life never works out like that and as well as not finding a friendly farmer, I didn't have the joy of a Landy. I've had a couple of estate cars, a hairdresser Ford Maverick and most recently, a 15yr old Pug 306 that cost me £300 and after 3yrs of troublefree motoring - she suddenly suffered a terminal illness and had to be painlessly put to sleep at the scrappy (I cried!). That left me with a dilemma ... what to replace her with. As luck would have it, I was offered a 2.5 N/A Landy 110 that had spent 2yrs sitting in a field and was on her way to the scrappy as a non runner.

I know you'll all say she is a bit of a heap but what do you expect for £400?! I figured she was worth a punt at that price, the scrappy had given me £100 for the Pug so surely a Landy must be worth somewhere near £400? I have spent £300 but that included a couple of new tyres, lights, bulbs, clutch slave and a new battery. She started as soon as we changed the battery and the clutch slave replacement turned her into a runner. I was anticipating a big MOT failure but nearly fainted when she passed! (although the list of advisories is extensive) so have used her for my daily 20mile round trip commute every day since the start of September.

She makes me smile every day, I LOVE driving her and only rarely get in a tizz ... usually when I've managed to wedge us in a tight carpark space that is then a struggle to get out of! :D I love the fact we will always get there, no matter what, but we'll never get there quickly so enjoy the ride! I had a sore neck after the first week, I soon realised it was due to using muscles I didn't know I had an dhaven't had any problems since - it is very satisfying to know I am unlikely to get bingo wings!

My colleagues think I'm loopy, especially on the days I arrive wearing a suit and heels (although I change the heels for trainers while I'm driving), and I've had to have my own reserved carpark space because I can't get into most of the others... but I wouldn't change her.
This was the day I bought her ... she didn't run at this point.

I will get some piccies, although I fear the picture in your head will be far better than the reality. You can have a giggle anyway. :)

That's really good for £400. I've looked on Autotrader for Defenders and can't find any for less than £1500!

If you go off road though, you may wanna take those side steps off. If the mud/bank/whatever decides to do it for you, it won't do a very tidy job!

I was really lucky that she came to me, a real case of right place right time. I had looked in the classified and on ebay and like you, had found £1500 to be the bottom line and most of them were no better than the one I bought, at least with her, I have the £1000 to spend on fixing some of her issues. I was offered a B reg 90 in identical condition the same week as I bought my 110 and that was £2500... it sold!

As for taking off the steps! I am 5'4" and often in a skirt so there's no way I could get in without an undignified scramble and a flash of knickers! :p I don't know if you've seen Gavin and Stacey but I have visions of me needing a bunk up like Nessa did into her lorry. :D

There's little chance of me needing to do any proper off roading - I do that on my horses, so the Landy will only need to negotiate muddy fields and snowy/flooded roads ... horse related tasks. :)

 I'm in the SW Midlands, 5'4", previously married but now with a lovely man who is highly amused that I am driving a Landy but has so far fixed all the little problems she has had. :D You wouldn't be so quick to ask me to cook for you if you'd actually experienced my cooking.

don't worry about cooking, do you know a decent pie and chip shop?

Hi Helen,

Welcome to the mad house! You sure gotta bargin there! LOL at you, Laura, the suit and heels! You sound like I did when I had my Fourtrack. I have a Disco now, called Norbert :D

You have my empathies with the horse related tasks! The fun of winter eh! At least it will be now you have Laura :):):D I have to ask, how many horses do you have? What do you do with them? I have 3, a mare and my 2 homebreds out of her.

Hi! :) I've got 4 horses, well 2 horses ( a Lusitano and a purebred Spanish) and 2 ponies (Welsh C and Dartmoor Hill Pony). I only hack and have the occasional lesson at the moment but would like to do a few stressage and little jumpy comps at some point. All are grass kept and the field is 5miles from our house, the other side of a river and up a hill ... it was interesting trying to get to them last year in all the snow although my OH's Frontera did struggle through. What do you do with your's?

I really do love Laura, it's sad really.
