Hi, I've been a member for a while but have lurked and looked things up using the search facility, but never posted so I thought it was time to remember my manners and say hello.
My name's Helen and I'm in my late 30s (which is obviously nowhere near 40! ) and in August this year, I became the proud keeper of a B reg Landy 110 .called Laura ... I say keeper rather than owner because she definitely owns me!
I have loved Landys since I was a child and had an ambition to marry a farmer! Life never works out like that and as well as not finding a friendly farmer, I didn't have the joy of a Landy. I've had a couple of estate cars, a hairdresser Ford Maverick and most recently, a 15yr old Pug 306 that cost me £300 and after 3yrs of troublefree motoring - she suddenly suffered a terminal illness and had to be painlessly put to sleep at the scrappy (I cried!). That left me with a dilemma ... what to replace her with. As luck would have it, I was offered a 2.5 N/A Landy 110 that had spent 2yrs sitting in a field and was on her way to the scrappy as a non runner.
I know you'll all say she is a bit of a heap but what do you expect for £400?! I figured she was worth a punt at that price, the scrappy had given me £100 for the Pug so surely a Landy must be worth somewhere near £400? I have spent £300 but that included a couple of new tyres, lights, bulbs, clutch slave and a new battery. She started as soon as we changed the battery and the clutch slave replacement turned her into a runner. I was anticipating a big MOT failure but nearly fainted when she passed! (although the list of advisories is extensive) so have used her for my daily 20mile round trip commute every day since the start of September.
She makes me smile every day, I LOVE driving her and only rarely get in a tizz ... usually when I've managed to wedge us in a tight carpark space that is then a struggle to get out of! I love the fact we will always get there, no matter what, but we'll never get there quickly so enjoy the ride! I had a sore neck after the first week, I soon realised it was due to using muscles I didn't know I had an dhaven't had any problems since - it is very satisfying to know I am unlikely to get bingo wings!
My colleagues think I'm loopy, especially on the days I arrive wearing a suit and heels (although I change the heels for trainers while I'm driving), and I've had to have my own reserved carpark space because I can't get into most of the others... but I wouldn't change her.
This was the day I bought her ... she didn't run at this point.
