i have an 02 TD5 defender wich i want to be faster and have more power for towing etc and wud like to convert to gas and the only solution i believe is to put a V8 in it. Am i rite?

Have you done all the usual things to the TD5 - i think you can mess about with it to give performance not that dissimilar to fitting it with a petrol motor, don't forget you are trying to push a 2 tonne brick along so torque is important and the td5 is very re-mappable, and it will be better for towing than petrol as it has a mass of torque.

wel im a farmer so i can b towin anyfin. we also buy gas in bulk at 34ppl!!! wich is why i wud like a petrol engine to gas. i have luked in2 remapping it ans that is still an option but its costing sooooo much to drive up and down the motorway. im getin 200 miles out of a tank and its £60ish to fill up!!

yeh thats hu iv luked at but they quoted me £1650 for remap, intercooler, exhaust and induction kit and that wud gime 65 bhp roughly. . . . but iv found a brand new 4 litre engine on "RPi Engineering - Specialised Rover Engines" for £2000! so wich is best option? a V8 is guna sound so much nicer and its givin me the option to gas it in the future.

you will still need the ecu, loom, fuelpump, and tank....as im not sure your pump will be ok for it.....also the airfilter and a few other bits...

i can get a complete 3.5 with all the bits for £250 all in , but you may also need the gearbox, which could mean altering the transmission tunnel too...

best bet to buy a scrap rrc and use all the bits from that.....

it is easy to do but you have to be a but more tahn handy with a spanner...the engine mounts are different too......
