I agree with ScratchyDom. Don't know that much myself but driving for months with an overheating motor?

Karen - keep your cool.
You obviously dont know this forum at all. The fact that you are female means nothing on here (aprt from the usual requests for photos of your top) - ask the other wimmins...

I suggest you contact 110Woman and ask what this forum is like - particularly for help as a gurlee.

The reason that Scratchydom postede what he did - is that if you filled in the UserCP section, then peeps might be likely to volunteer to come and help you. Knowing that you are in Yorkshire means that I wont - others might (sex or cakes or chippies is the usual currency).

You will need a thick skin to survive on here - but the help and advice is second to none.

Good luck - the choice is yours.

arternoon Accy - just keeping an eye on the inmates? ;)

Who's Beverley?

Karen, so you're still here then... :p If you'd had a look around the forum before posting you might've noticed that there is a fair amount of banter here, *most* of it good natured
.

What you dont know is that I have been visiting the site for a long time as a guest and have searched it well looking for answers to problems with my car. In some cases I have found exactly what I was looking for but in these two cases I felt I needed to post a question. You have made a massive assumption about me.

Very sorry that you took offence.

OOh clever way of not apologising. You are not saying that you are sorry you said something to offend me just sorry that I took offence.

I wasn't being condescending because you're a woman

Were you being condescending for another reason?

it just bugs me when people ask for advice / try to sell something / ask about lanes and don't say where they are.

What difference does it make where the member is. Do you not offer advice if someone lives up north?

On that note, I just had a quick look and you've started two threads asking for advice and haven't even bothered to introduce yourself in the 'Introduce Yourself' forum...

Was this compulsory?

You'll probably get better advice here than on any other Landy forum. You might have to take a bit of a ribbing from time to time. Take it with good humour, or don't. It's up to you.

I dont mind good natured banter from people who know me or as a result of something really stupid that I have said but neither of those apply here.

But be aware that people don't log on here just to help you, m'kay..?

Dont they? I thought that was the whole point of forums. A group of people with a common interest who swap stories and advice. What did you expect it to do? I am on several forums and previously was on a great Pajero owners site. People have a choice whether they wish to offer advice to other members. It's a shame you didn't just ignore my posting instead of trying to point score at my expense. All you have succeeded in doing is to put me off using the site again and, if any visitors read this, putting them off joining. Well done! ever thought of going into PR!

it should be quite simple to get head skimmed if necssary ,and refitted with new 3 hole head gasket,(no point in making it complicated) then check rad is hot all over its surface once engine upto temp,(very important)its not unusual for a head gasket to go on an old engine with or without a cause ,like thermostat or rad,300 tdi head fitting is a simple job, ensure coolant level is checked and filled by removing bung on the thermostat housing (you cant cause an issue by overfilling but you can by under)coolant level in expansion tank isnt necessarily indicative of level in engine ,cold heater means coolant level is too low

Following on from my earlier post:

I noticed you posted this on the 8th. March:

"I have read the recent threads about Disco's overheating. Well, the first time mine did it I was towing a horse trailer with a large horse on board. The engine temp went up and steam came out from under the bonnet. I lifted the bonnet and saw water and coolant coming out of the reservoir. After topping up I managed to limp home. Whilst the engine was overheating I noticed there was no heat coming from the cabin heaters. I had the thermostat changed and it seemed to solve the problem but then I noticed the engine overheating and no cabin heater whilst driving without towing. Suddenly warm air started to flood the cabin and the heater switch dropped straight down to normal. Any ideas?

KarenB"

Two people responded, did you take time to mention you saw their responses, did you even have the courtesy to say thanks?

I couldn't see it if you did, then you get stroppy with someone trying to offer advice (i.e. stick some details up so we might be able to help more.) I think most will understand how you reached the decision that Scratchydom was being condescending, you show yourself to be a rude person who quickly jumps to conclusions based on little knowledge of the facts. I pity your horse/horses if you treat them as badly as you treated your sick, faithful old Landie which did it's best to keep you mobile until you flogged it to death.

Rant over.

Sorry Karen

Didnt realise you are such a touchy areshole.

Shut the door on the way out - you wont get any help from me now.

James, there is a fair chance that she has warped the head when the original overheating occurred. In her post in March, she mentions that, and I quote:

"After topping up I managed to limp home."

Obviously I wasn't there, but there is a strong possibility that she put cold water into a very hot engine and ... I'm sure I needn't say it.......

hmmm... so they have now removed the head and found its at fault?

they could have deduced this from checking the coolant (for oil contamination), the oil (for water contamination, it emulsifies, white muck in oil) or checking for exhaust gases in the coolant by a "sniff test"... this samples the gases in the coolant system and shows whether exhaust gases are getting into the coolant..

any hoo.. the head is off, so needs skim and rebuild.. and the car moving..

Have they given ya a costing for work so far? is that included in the £700?

How far away from you is the car?

Is it a landrover specialist? Landrover Dealer?

so many questions, so little time...

thats why i said skim if necessary ,if very warped id replace but presumably ,machine shop would advise ,very overheated heads are buggered as internal stresses are relaxed and move again ,theres allways too much that is experience to put in words ,even checking bores for signs of aluminum etc

I don't get her problem - got some excellent advice both on her Landy and the ways of the forum and still kept going on. Bloody women! :blabla::D
