as title... should the non registered users get so much free access to the forum? it's not hard to register, with the number of thefts and greenlane damage it's the least we can do to and maybe limit their access to certain parts untill they reach a post count

agree??? reply with a simple yes or no.... or write some words lol

It will not stop Doggie people from signing on if there goal is to steal defenders or fook up green lanes they will sign up to achieve there goals. And are there some dishonest folks on here............. Well lets say I agree with Red/Pikey 100%

No, I viewed for a long time before I bought a P38 and registered, a very useful site. Anyone can register so limiting access to non registered peeps would make no difference to those of evil intent.

Dunno how it would work, but yes .. guests ought to be limited in what they can see somehow.

Well AG is members only....... If your thread would of been in AG than non members would not see it.

I agree .. hadn't thought about it as being relevant in AG .. till we found the recovery strap around the axle and discussed it's implications!

Maybe I'm getting paranoid, but life's been intense this week. ;)

Did something in particular kick this off?

Definately against charging and we already have several restricted areas. Could put member only sub forums in each section but then who would post anywhere else?

Was it this?

I do try and remind people of the implications of posting in public areas but tbh it makes little difference as we have thousands of members who never or rarely post that we don't know from Adam

Might have been me

Have been saying same for years. It's always been my belief that, the vast majority of landrover thieves are other landrover owners. The sort of person you laugh and banter with on a Landy forum and wouldn't dream for a moment that they've got their eyes on ya landy.. It's why I keep my landies basic with minimum toys. In the hope they'll nick the daft ####, that's bragging about the £2k he just paid for a new set of wheels & tyres.

limiting access would be the beginning of the end imo..

just remember that what you say is in public view and will be for some time. Even AG shouldn't be taken for granted, as the mods/owners have fecked up in the past

Re paul, would you have told everyone in the local boozer that you have just lost your landy and all your gear down the road at x,y co-ords? If not, then you shouldn't be doing it publicly here :)

I only said it was lost and the Police station it was reported to, that I recall.

The pm's I got showed that what others had posted, and the speculation, led them to the rough area and didn't take long to narrow it down. I'm NOT laying any blame anywhere, it's noone's 'fault' at all what happened with mine.

No sweat .. in a weeks time I'll probably not care so much ..

But as my first line says, 213 members, 843 guests says we know absolutely nothing whatsoever about 80% of the viewers, who also, obviously, have absolutely nothing to add or contribute to the forum.

it works a bit like a sales funnel.

you have a huge bunch of visitors..

10% come back again for more info.. (repeat this a bit)

10% that came back decides to contribute, ask a specific question

2% out of that that previous 10% stick around for a while

the numbers are crap, but the general point stands.

No visitors means no new blood, old blood goes away, forum posts drop, knowledge is lost, forum dies
