Put it to the Poll. Should I buy a 1970 88" series 2a lightweight for £900? tax exempt, done 40 miles since last MOT. this one has run out. pretty standard except for the 3.5 V8 :)

Would be my 2nd motor and would be kept in my garage. Ok its not a minter and looks a little shabby all around. But I have always liked the lightweights and would like a V8 as a 2nd run around.

what you think?

Erm.... YES!

What is a tin of nato green paint? Not alot.... Take a day to put it on and it won't look as shabby!

Definitely.

If you've always wanted one, have the money to hand with no come-backs then I'd say go ahead.

I'd rather regret something I'd done than something I haven't, IYSWIM .. ;)

'course, once you actually buy it, there's be hundreds come out of the woodwork, all nicer, brighter and cheaper than yours ... ;)

Cheers Paul, I think your right.

It should be cheap to keep hopefully. Insurance will be £200 or less (only rung Adrian Flux) tax free and then the MOT. Ok it is a V8, but I will only use it around Bristol and close by. Got my 90 and the Girlfriends Golf TDI for everything else.

some pics for you.

You will also need a new number plate for the MOT ;)

Looks good :), Even if you use it for a year then sell it i seriously doubt you will loose ANY money!

There wuz a lightweight on ebay last week that was buy it now for £400. It did need a bit of welding doing for the mot though. I so wanted to clicky clicky the buy it now button but cash is just too tight at the mo.:mad::mad:

Heheheh, that's got more character than many I've seen! How original is it, do you know? Juliet (wife) would kill for us to have a lightweight, she wanted one when i bought a S3 and never forgave me .. ;)

You can come and work on this one if i get it Rats :D

why do i need a new number plate? Actually, thats a good point. He has told me its a 1970 which it states on the V5 (I think I remember) but it was registered in 80 something, giving it the W plate. Does this mean he has not registered it to be tax exempt? Or is it ok for the V5 to say 1970 and the plate to be different and still giving me tax exemption?

New Number plate because the symbol on the side is not accepted.

Look at the Tax Disc, Does that say nill? If it says 1970 on the V5 it is ok, just that the car is not on a age related plate. All is good :)

I see. looks like a sticker. so should be fine. I would liketo get an age related plate. Are they easy enough to sort out? and do they cost much?

G

I would ring up your local DVLA Office and ask. I belive they are free but don't quote me on that!
