I bought some FL1 wheels a while back, the guy wasn't sure which model he had them on but pretty sure he had them on FL1, and had some spacers to use on his FL2 later.

I bought the wheels but didn't get the spacers, wondering if I need them.

When we fitted them, the inside of the spokes make full contact with the edge/corner of the drums on the rear. They do clear the calipers on front though. Is this normal? I didn't think anything should contact the drum except the face behind the bolt holes. Any advice appreciated. thanks

Interesting, thanks. better get some spacers then maybe
Don't think you want to do that!

I may be wrong, its to late to check ATM, but mine might touch, I'll check tomorrow.

I may be mistaken here, but that wheel does not have dimples - so may be from an early MY VIN car up to 2000.

Have you got them on the front to, cos I thought the MY wheels won't fit over the larger calpiers on the 2000+ cars. This is probably the indicator that I'm wrong assuming you have them fitted on the front as well - unless of course you have a early car :D

Thanks,. but confused, why don't you think I want to do that? The rest of your post sounds like you're saying I do need to?!

I should have said, it's a 2004 FL1 we have. And yes they definitely fit over the calipers, we are driving the car around the fields. WE only used it for off road use but still want to ensure they are attached properly!! Especially with kids doing donuts :D

The wheel studs don't look through far enough, something is wrong here.
Is the wheel locating on the central disc on the brake drum?

If not, don't take the car anywhere, not even a field!! The wheels are hubcentric and must sit on the collar in the centres of the drum. Studs will snap otherwise.
Might be the wrong wheel type as above.
Compare with old one??

Hi Andrew, yes the wheel is locating properly. That pic was taken while fitting the first time. All studs are fully screwed in now and all looks well. I am just concerned with those spokes touching the edge of the drum.

They are Freelander 1 wheels, but could be from a pre 2001MY version, which had solid rotors and smaller rear drums.
If so you'll need 5mm spacers, front and back. If they're not touching the caliper, and they are early wheels, then it's likely your pads are almost out, which increases the clearance to the wheel.

Oh, and Freelander 1 wheels don't fit a Freelander 2 at all, the stud pattern and spigot are completely different dimensions.

Well as usual Nodge is correct! I forgot about this, my son used the wheels without spacers since i posted this thread (which means the car has moved about 200 yards a few times across field!), and today he fitted new front pads. Oops, car won't move. After a while scratching heads, bleeding brakes, etc etc, I remembered this thread!

So, I now need the spaces! Any idea where I can get some as cheap as possible? Don't suppose anyone in here has any they don't use any more?
Would these work? - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154917505575
Thanks

Halfords sell 5mm wheel spacers, which should be enough, and all you can use with the standard length studs anyway.
