Hi Guys, my 2006 TD4 face lift instrument cluster has a push stick type mileage reset to the right of my instruments it also has one just a few cm to the left that doesn't seem to do anything at all and I can't find any mention of it whats it for ?
I also want to brighten up the clocks lights unlike most vehicles it seems to be fixed brightness ( dull ) only is it possible to fit new bulbs and what sort of job is it ?
Thanks in advance of Your comments, AL.
I'm asking before pulling apart as I took a cluster out of my sons car only to find solid state and no bulbs.

Bulbs are easy, w5w. I use osram 4000k leds, too bright now for my tastes but will leave them.
Not a hard job at all, a few philips screws.

It's for changing the outside temperature display from °C to °F, on vehicles equipped with the outside temperature display on the LCD, which the UK FL1 doesn't have. The stick remains as a useless addition on UK models however.

Change them to LEDs, assuming all the normal bulbs are functional?

only on a FL1 would they leave a useless bit of kit

It's only useless if you have a Freelander that was to be sold outside Canada. I believe that the external temperature sensor is mandatory there, but the rest of the world simply ends up with a button that does nothing.

It is actually possible to retrofit the temperature sensor, if you have access to T4, so it can be programmed. ;)

It would be great to have an external temp readout. What is involved in the retro fit? (aside from the programming)

I thought so too, so made one that fitted in my rear view mirror.

You need to extend the sensor wire, which is cut short at the dash harness, so it reaches the new sensor that is fitted at the front of the car. The sensor comes from the Rover 75, which actually has the temperature display installed.
The it's a case of plugging the car up to T4, so the external temperature is activated, at which point the temperature is displayed on the LCD, along with the gear information.

I found a guide years ago, but never moved forward with the project, as I didn't have access to T4.

Here's a PDF guide on fitting the temperature display on the FL1.
