... or have come across it before.

Disco 300 Tdi, automatic.
100k miles

Making a new and odd knocking / rattle noise from underneath and when going over rough ground, say a potholed carpark.

Disappears when brakes applied, but appears to still be there when going uphill and accelerating (so I figure that ruled out drive train problem?)

Noise kind of got a "ping" tone to it like the propshaft, hollow noise if you dong it with a spanner.

Worried coz I got to take the family up and down some dodgy heights for holiday (Cornwall)

Took all wheels off and brake callipers are firm.
All oil levels correct.
New shocks on rear - doing front tomorrow (today).
Prop shafts don't budge when I'm under there trying to pull 'em about.

ANY ideas what it could be or where I should look first.
Cheers

Impossible to tell without hearing it in person, Best bet is to go over everything you can, Could be a mount of some sort ?

Yeah, thanks. I will be under it again tomorrow (today).

Thought of a mount, but then I thought "why does it stop when I apply the brakes?"

If it wasn't for the brake bit of the equation, I wouldn't be so worried, but brakes and steering are about the 2 most important bits I figure.

Will get another looksee later.
Cheers

I think mne has this problem too. When I hit potholes (no lack of those anywhere) but not all the time, I think it sounds like when you collapse a rotary washing line (don't ask...)

From the above, dust guards first (though I hope to faaark Ratty int actually right........if it is though, do a 'Sirus' and tear the fecker orf with a pair o' pliers) then anti roll bar bushings. If neither, then 'they all do that'.

It stops, it goes, dun't sweat it! ;)

Well, think it'll have to be "they all do that" for now.

4 new shocks and new SAE 80/90 in all places. Been under it most day and seen not a lot.

Nice deep cut in eyebrow when spanner slipped. Not quire deep enough for stitches (at least as long as the plaster holds up).

If I ever find out what it is I'll log it in, to increase the great knowledge bank.

Cheersa all.
