Hi, me and the nife are always looking out for a nice upgrade from our disco1. the problem is we are after a disco2 with all the spec of our disco1 (XS or even the ES), preferably in black(silver will do), with seven seats and LPG and a manual gearbox (she would also like the moon on a stick:rolleyes:) but just when we think weve found one it turns out to be a bloody auto:mad:

Ive never had an auto but my old man has always advised me against them as he says they can be expensive if they break. Everyone ive spoken to thats got one tells me that autos are much better and that once i get one i'll never go back.

So basically what i would like to know is 1:are manual gearboxes rare on the V8 disco2? and 2:what are you guys opinions on the use and reliability of autoboxes in the V8 disco2?

I Thankyou:)

I have had 9 autos and numerous manual cars, and i personally prefer autos. Out of the 9 autos i have only had trouble with one and that was my own fault. My dad has had 5 autos and never had a problem. My current vehicles are 03 disco 2 auto and the gear box is beautifull, my morris minor on the other had has blown 2 manual boxes, bit of an age diffrence i know but for me with the newer cars i wouldnt go back to a manual. But this is a personal choice and every one is diffrent, only you can make up your mind.

I've got a manual Disco 300 series and a 2002 Disco 2 4.0 Auto on lpg....IMO the auto is far better and you only lose about 1-1.5 mpg compared to the manual.I'm averaging around 27-28mpg round the doors on lpg.

I have a 99T disco 2 V8 ES manual, Its a lovely car and i prefer it to the auto's i have had overall, But when i want to be lazy i wish it was auto but i prefer the manual when in a hurry ect.

I was thinking of selling it as i now have to do more miles to work so i was thinking of the diesel but i dont know if i could live without the v8 rumble and heard bad stories of the lpg converted ones.
