ello i know this thread is for engines but i couldent find one for gearboxes- but it is atached to the engine! im wondering if anyone knows if a lt77 2wd box ie rover sd1 can be persuaded to fit 4wd? as my v8 has wreaked enother box!-cheers Adrian

2WD LT77'S are quite different to the 4WD ones, whilst The SD1 V8 Bellhousing won't actually fit over a Land Rover V8 flywheel.

Best plan -especially if you're running an adapter kit on a standards series box- is to get an LT77 from a pre 300 Tdi four cylinder and either spend the money on the ashcroft adapter kit to fit the LT77 to the series transfer box, or fit the LT230 with it and run permenant 4WD or convert it to selectable 4WD.

Both options are a bit of work, as the LT77 is longer than the Series box, and no doubt somebody will be along to spout some bollocks about needing to fit a stage 1 front axle for the CV joints etc, but having run a permenant 4WD gearbox through a standard front axle in a couple of vehicles in can tell you the only things you'll notice are slightly heavier steering and a bit of a light kick through the wheel when turning full lock.
