Yep I did a search, nope I did not get my answer....

....have a B reg 90 with what I believe are probably the original springs or if not they are very old. The rear ones come out when I am off-roading and can be popped back in by hand by finding a small bump and taking the weight off the required wheel. I have had to zip-tie them to the seats to stop this happening!

I had read up about people's views on here and decided not to do a 2" lift because I dont want to replace the props and the only reason I can think for doing a lift is if your going to install 33" tyres as well which I am not.

I was thinking of using HD standard springs as I think this will probably lift my 90 by 1" or so considering the old ones are so worn - is that a fair assumption?

I do not need the HD for load carrying as it is a CSW and I do not load it with bricks...will the HD springs be better or worse than just standard springs off road?

As said, go for standards again, you don't need anything special and HD springs will make the ride a bit harsh, or compromise and get a better quality medium weight spring, but I'd say standards are fine.

I'd also suggest a look at your dampers as well as springs. If you're popping a spring off regularly your dampers may be shot, allowing the axle to flex too easily and too fast. Also check your bump stops, if they're missing that can also allow the axle to flex too much.

Thanks guys - was going to replace the shocks, bushings, seats, turrets, all the bolst etc....the suspension is ancient and a total rusted mess so I assumed I would be taking it off with my grinder and replacing it with shiny stuff.

I mostly do P&P days and some lanes in Wales. Would love to do the whole 33" tyres and 2" lift but cant afford the cost right now or the damage if things go wrong.

I will probably plum for a standard but quality set of springs and shocks.

(Bump stops are in place - but thanks for heads up!)

I went for HD springs on Scratchy because I sometimes carry heavy loads - when not carrying it's bumpy as..! Given the chance to do it again then I would opt for standards and take the wallowing when I've got a load on.

And good idea to replace the turrets - I thought mine seemed 'okay for now' and most who were on the chippie run will attest that were most certainly were not..!

Lol

sorry to be a dick - any recommendations for makers of "quality" standard springs and shocks?? Assume Terrafirma would be "good" and Britpart "bad"??

I went for Bearmach springs - seem to be pretty good (even if the HD ones are a bit hard) from mailorder4x4.And Terrafirma shocks - found some cheap on egay.

you could get a second hand set, loads on here have springs knocking about after lifting. Ive got a set off my td5 90 but its prob a bit far for you to collect.

I'd recommend air shocks such as pro comp if your replacing shocks, I've got them on my lifted 90 and the ride is better than when it was standard on standard oil shocks :) just a pointer :)

Make sure the shocks are fitted correctly otherwise quite often they snap the eyes off at the back 90% of the time because they have been fitted wrong

What's everyone's thoughts on this:

I'm in the need for a whole new setup as well and I've been watching that for a while. Pretty reasonably priced too I reckon

Nothing wrong with them.

As with any suspension your budget mostly determines what you get, but certainly I've not heard bad things about Bearmach springs and I have Armstrong shocks on mine .. they're a bit tired now (the shocks) but they get hammered with weight, towing and off-roading, so I'm not complaining, they've been on about 9 years!

If your regularly towing why not look at fitting the Matt savage airbag kit? My old man had it in his 90 as he was towing everyday, you can run standard spring ten when you have a loaded trailer you just keep adding pressure to the bags until your truck is level again, and for springs I have heard good things about the big dog springs

Nowt wrong with 12 pound specials shocks

Aka fitment make 100% sure the washers are fitted correctly and not how it looks like they should be fitted. This keeps max articulation without loading the shock eye and its weld

Flat side to the outside and dished side towards the bush, right?
