Got a 95 300TDI and today filling it up realised I was at a pump only supplying V Power diesel instead of £102.9 per L for ordinary diesel this was 109.9
Anybody use it on a similar engine and what are the benefits or problems you get for the extra cost

Regards Pete

I think any benefit from using this grade of Diesel will soon be offset by driving a two tonne agricultural lump of metal with the aerodynamics of a wardrobe!
I doubt there will be a downside other than in your wallet.

I get dead spots at certain revs in my 'car' if i fill up with cheap unleaded supermarket petrol, so tend now to go with the 97 premium fuel as the dead spots do become anoying.

Never seen any benefit from the BP or Shell premium grades, and with an older vehicle it's unlikely that you will either.

Our Renault Trafic vans run fine on the cheaper stuff, one is nearly new and one is 4 years or so old.

tractors and vans wont see any difference - the engines arent finely tuned enough to care if they run on amazing fuel or used engine oil. modern diesel cars will notice quite a difference tho due to them being slightly more 'tuned' and therefore needing the better quality fuel.

same thing with petrol - a 10 year old fiesta will run on supermarket 95ron unleaded all day long. if you own a Nissan GTR and put anything other than 99ron super unleaded in it and you wont be getting very far

Bearing in mind that tdi motors will run on just about anything I can't see expensive posh diesel making any difference at all.

I have found that with both the Doozil and petrol variants there is a slight power advantage and better fuel consumption - whether it is enough to cover the increased cost tho is dubious.

I stuck some in my works truck the other day cos it was the only fuel available to me at the time and within the range I had left onboard. It made a noticable difference in the power. I don't think the difference in fuel economy paid for it though.

Many thanks for the comments, I've done a couple hundred miles on it and found the only difference to be in my wallet:mad:

won't bother again Pete

I use it, I get a bit more mileage out of it than the same cost of cheap diesel plus the engine seems quieter but I had to use 2 or 3 tank full's before noticing any difference.

Recently been using it in the wife's Zafira and it used to black smoke when given some right foot, not now plus she gets good mileage with it as well.

My TD5 definitely likes the BP Ultimate. It also likes the recycled bio - both have a better cetane rating and it runs quieter and gets better consumption. I tried the Shell stuff once though and didn't notice any difference.

Yer same here, I ran a few tanks of BP Ultimate through the disco one after another a few months back and it defiantly made a difference, mostly at high revs on the motorway and what ever. It was cruising at 75mph where before it complained when you went past 65mph.

Doesn't smoke as much when starting up etc and I got about 40 extra miles out of a tank. If it were only like 3p/L more expensive I'd use it all the time but like you said I don't think the differences are enough to make me pay an extra 8p/L or whatever.
