Can anyone tell me if this is a common thing or whether the bit is available without having to renew the whole handle/ barrel/ keys, etc?

I noticed the other day that the car locks and unlocks off whichever of the two keys is synch'd but won't unlock or lock off by turning the key (2000 P38 4.0 HSE). (Can still only get one key to synch at any one time!!)
Took the door panel off and saw that the little flange that attaches to the rod which goes down to the lever on the door lock actuator has sheared. Its the little plate at the inner end of the door lock barrel.

I dread one day coming out to the car and the fob not working to unlock it.

Probably will do but its -7C up here during the day just now and the local breakers is beside a river complete with wind chill! Suppose I'd better look out the thermals.

I take it the number is on the inside. Only one of them has the white label on the outside which says No 1. Strange that it should have two No 1s as they both look original and are obviously the same cut.

number on out side of key somtimes hard to see, but that would be my shoot at half of your problem. the one with lable will prob be original
