Hi all, had some free time today so thought id see if i could get some of the service history for my 1997 p38 hse from the dealers that have stamped the service book as i only have a couple of invoices etc. Phoned two of the dealers (only three garages have serviced it and one has closed). Both were happy to help, but neither could access the history, both said the system would not let them look it up,saying they did not have authority? One could tell me it had gone to auction in 2002, as a px, but also told me it had been sold at some point by Land Rover warranty, something they had never heard of.
I did findout that the original owner is co founder of the Brothers drinks company (Brothers Cider) and have emailed them to see of he remembers the car.
Can anyone think why they cant access the history???

perhaps there system doesnt go back that far, or data protection act????

I think its supposed to be Data Protection Act issues.

IIRC when my sons have been seeking this info, a BMW dealer was happy to give the service record (he even found that his car which was over 10 years old was covered by a lifetime servicing package of some sort). However a Subaru dealer refused on the basis that this was information which 'belonged' to the owner of the car at the time that the previous work had been done.

The service history on a 13 yr old RR is pretty much irrelevant, what is much more important is its condition today. For intstance last winter really took its toll on older vehicles that suffered the cold/salt/damp etc.
Even cars with a full history may not have had the care they should have, and to be in top nick at that age they would have needed even more care with waxoil etc, stuff outside of a service list.

We all know what a load of wasters the Main Stealers are, wouldn't trust them with a pushbike..so why all the emphasis on a service book full of their stamps ??
Personally, it would worry me that they had their hands on a motor for say 5 or more years..I would expect it to be in ****e order.
