I am replacing the engine in my Disco 1998 3.9 Serpentine. I have another engine which is not a serpentine but is a 3.9 Hotwire(same as the original). Will the Serp crank and front end fit onto the other 3.9 engine?
Thanks.

Sorry, but want to be sure that I am clear on this. Are you saying that the crank and timimg covers etc will all fit on the other block to make it a Serpentine?

Thats good news. Many Thanks for that. Any idea on camshafts? I usually just tow a boat that weighs about 1 tonne inc trailer etc. I was thinking of the Torquemax. I borrowed my neighbours Range Rover 2.5DS(BMW engine) yesterday to recover a Disco. It was shocking how awful it was as a tow vehicle. I really struggled on the slightest incline. Surely there must be something wrong with it...but it is the first time I have driven one of them.

blocks are all the same ,so are the cranks,

Not quite true, although the crank from an early (non-serp) 3.9 is long enough to drive the oil pump it is not sufficiently long to also engage the crankshaft damper keyway (interim 3.9 serp). The camshaft is also held inplace by a thrust plate on an interim block.

also late interim (serp) engines have the bosses for cross bolting but where not drilled.
