I am restoring a series three SWB which has a rotten bulkhead. I am having difficulty finding a good used replacement. Can I use a Defender bulkhead. I know that it will have to be modified. Has anybody done this and what is involved? Thanks for your time.

Td5 bulkheads can e fitted but you need to swap over the transmission tunnel section and footwells. Or buy new or make your own footwells, if yours are knacked. You also need to decide wether to keep the series throttle linkages or bin it and use the defender pedal and cable. There are a few other bits that are different and you will need to cut bits off the old bulkhead and weld them on to the new one. Steering column mounting is 1 that springs to mind. You'll also have to drill holes for things like the heater.

i am currently doing this myself using a 300 Tdi bulkhead - tranny tunnel deffo needs work - i havent worked out if the footwells on mine will need work, cant see that they will

the windscreen mounts will need chopping off yer old bulkhead and welding onto the new one

am sure there will be more things
