I've done search but can't seem to really find anything about converting a Discovery into a Series bodied hybrid.

Is there a thread or threads that I'm missing or is this sort of thing frowned upon as being a heinous crime?

If anyone can point me in the right direction it'd be appreciated, I'm only really looking for the pitfalls, problems and fixes.
I am going to try and build an 88", 3.9 V8, Discovery powered and chassis'd, Series III rag top!

I have the donor cars. This has come about from a SIII restoration that went awry when the supposedly good chassis was stuffed, and, I got offered an LPG'd Disco at good money but with a V tatty interior. It seems to make sense to me to take the Disco's brakes, chassis and suspension and put it on a serious diet, seems to me it'd make for an awesome beast?

been done lots of times especially rr ,chassis identical to disco so method the same series bulkhead out riggers ,reaer croiss member and a bit out of chassis rails to right length

Sorry! Is that a mis-type? The Range Rover (Classic I assume) chassis is the same as the Disco's?

If so that's just made life a shed load easier, LOADS of info on that one. :)

If you cut the chassis down, that is a major modification and you will require it SVA tested and will almost certainly end up on a Q plate. HTH

yes, so would I... I have thought about mounting an S3 body on a 90 chassis but they are usually too over priced.

I prefer the looks of a Series, but would like the 'comfort', brakes, perm 4x4, etc of a coiler. Also, the S3 is a lot less nickable than a 90 etc so would stay on the drive longer as most mongos would over look it as an old heap.

you can also use defender outer wing panels on series wings or use complete defender wings bulkhead, tunnel seat box etc nearly all parts between def and series are interchangeable

Why not bulid a 100 inch probably easer than building an 88 s3 that or just refurb and improve the s3

Why not bulid a 100 inch probably easer than building an 88 s3 ...

Just looking into that at the moment, it is looking like the way forward. :D

you wanna put a s3 body on a disco/rrc chasis?

Yes mate, I do. As someone else said it's a matter of getting the best of the more modern chassis, suspension, brakes etc, with the classic looks of the Series. I have to admit that I'm not much of a fan of the look of the Disco, so if I can have something that's as or even, more capable than a Discovery with the classic look I'll be well happy with that. :p

...oh yeah, and the fact that I can then stick with the LPG'd V8 that's currently fitted also has a bearing. I don't feel too bad about bastardising a Series 3 either, I just couldn't do it to a Series 1 or 2.

no - i was just commenting on the above - ie it wont be more capable than a disco, if it has Disco undercarriage.

Ah, ok, I am making the assumption that the lighter body of the Series rag top, along with a lot of the unnecessary bits stripped out would make it a little more sprightly.

just built one last year, cut a ft out the middle cut the rear overhang off the back, weld it back together, bit of box across the back as a cross member, weld the middle together put whatever engine&box your having in it series outriggers go on... fit body and your away (well in theory ) actualy you need to think about it quite a bit, and its not majorly easy but its definately not the hardest thing to do
its becoming alot more common for people to leave the disco floorpan and bulkhead etc on there and just hang the series pannels off it and with a pile of box a welder and some brains you can get it prtetty series looking, although its very easy to make it look ****e...
