series 3 onto series 2 chassis

Decided to tinker with the old swb series 3 88" diesel (1972) which is rotting away in my driveway- which means major surgery as the chassis and bulkhead have died a death.

Would the series 3 Land Rover body and bits I have swap straight over onto a Series 2 chassis ? I know where I can get my hands on a donor chassis but it is a series 2 chassis. Would everything fit and are there any issues such as fixings and chassis brackets for gear box, seat box bulkhead/wiring loom etc.

I think much of it depends on the age of Ser II chassis. The front mountings of the rear tub are different (to do with the sear belt mounts) and the handbrake bracket is different.
What bulkhead do you intend using?

he said he has a angle grinder, if he can weld and get hold of some mild steel hes there, not hard try bending 3mm into that shape |_| then curving it round a 4 foot split running between 1.5 inches and the full width of the chassis oo and the sidewalls are barly 1mm so stick welding it is a challenge

you'll likely have problems with the S3 clutch slave cylinder fouling the S2 gearbox crossmember (they have different shape bracings on the crossmember). can be battered/ground out of the way.

you'll possibly have problems with your front brake hose lengths - S2 chassis has the mounting tabs in a different place. not a huge issue - suggest get new front brake hoses for a S2 during the rebuild.

think someone above mentioned handbrake but can't see it while typing this reply! mounts may be different depending on age if the chassis is S2a, definintely different if it's a S2.

you won't be able to fit seatbelts unless you weld new mountings onto the S2 front-of-rear-tub crossmember.

you will legally lose the identity of the Series 3.

Dependant upon the price of the doner chassis I would be tempted to bite the bullet and get a series 3 chassis. I am rebuilding a series 2 onto a series 3 chassis but have side stepped some of the problems by fitting a series 3 gearbox. there are some small differances in the chassis, but it may cause you problems if you are hoping to use stock series 3 parts, you may need to have some of the brake and clutch pipes custom made to fit, I think the handbrake is different but not to a huge degree,is the series 2 chassis galv
