Dunno about the clams direct thing, everyone is doing it and we are all being screwed for insurance because of it, so is it right or wrong?
My motor was bumped and for a while I was considering going to a solicitor to stop solicitors from mithering me, I was bombarded from calls and mails from firms like claims direct, I didnt claim, didnt think it was worth it, I'dve had to be in the car at the time of the bump to have got any injury, instead of buying a paper.

That made my afternoon thanks Dr Pepper!! Good chap for being straight forward, not everyone would have been so honest! I've had several taxi cabs offer to be 'creative' with the receipts, it's very kind of them but I prefer a straight bat!

Honest comes in different flavours, but straight forward yes, besides I didnt really want to try and claim for injuries for a bump that occured while I wasnt even in my car.
However I have heard stories of others claiming for injuries even when they were not in or near the vehicle at the time of a bump, and getting a payout.
Yes mi'lud I received whiplash while I was queing for milk at the shop because someone negligently ran into my car outside.
That could only happen in this country.

Yes Your Honour, the car and I have been close for years to the point where I can now feel it's pain! I think most Landys are a pain in the neck at times but we don't call it whiplash, we call it character!!

Character is something thats missing on new cars.
Anyones who's changed a steering relay will know just how much of a pain a series can be.
My mrs had a bump with her 2a, bent the bumper and broke the sidelight, the sierra that bumped it was absolutely stuffed I couldnt believe it, tough as old boots series's, but not tough enough to cope with that bump, good job it was a resto, a rotbox would have been all over the road.

Yes I did the steering relay, what a swine! Assessed at £4250 which was fair enough less £750 for the salvage (rather optimistic I thought) but at least I know the parts that aren't bent are in good condition for the next project!!

That looks really nasty. Can't believe he didn't see you coming. That looks like zero braking possibilities. On the other hand, not many chances you get to have a good look at the underside.

just one to bear in mind charlie, i take it you are claiming off the calibra`s insurance??? if so a 3rd party insurer can not write your car off. You can insist that there is no price that will ever compensate you for all your hard work, blood, sweat and tears and that you want the landy repairing. They will have to repair it with new parts just as you did no matter what the cost. only your insurer can write it off.

Hello Top-cat, yes you are right re Calibra. I didn't realise it they couldn't write it off. An independent assessor said beyond economical repair and gave a valuation which seemed fair. I was surprised that the 3rd party didn't send an engineer as well so was sort of glad to have it sorted so quickly.

It looked mint in the photo`s, you must have spent months doing what you did to it. Im gutted for you. It was just a thought that if you wanted to keep your landy force them to repair it and dont accept the work done unless you are 100% its been done right.
I had a merc slk a couple of years ago and spun it on some ice and knoked a rear wheel in/ suspention and drive shaft. My fault nobody else involved, i wasnt going to claim but thought seing as airbags deployed it wasnt a job i thought i wanted to attempt, my noclaims was protected and id never claimed on the policy. It was recovered from the road side and i got a hire car. Mine went missing for 10 days and when it arrived at the dealers body shop i lost the hire car but didnt get a curtesy car as merc where declaring it a write off, i couldnt believe there was so much damage so asked for a break down of the repairs. between recovery and this time the car had suffered a front end smash ( it turned out the the recovery truck reversed over it after delivering to a compound.
It took weeks talking to the insurance companys indian call center trying to explain that the car did not leave my possesion in the condition it was in now, The loss adjuster (the first english understanding person id spoken to) would not listen and insisted that i had done the damage and they would write it off and i couldnt do anything about it... Lucky for me i took photos of the car as a friend wanted to see the damage with regards to repairing it for me, the last photo was of the car leaving, front facing rear on the tow truck so had the evidence of no damage and both mine and tow trucks reg numbers.
I was without the car (had a curtesy) for over 6 months by which time the mot had run out, the keys had gone missing i couldnt have the 18 inch wheels to match the new ones on as their supplyer didnt do them so opted for 18 inch amg. I had no end of bother, they returned it to me with an mot fail sheet the reason for which.... the tyres catching on full lock. they never did before. before it was unloaded i stoped the driver and said take it back there is a scratch on the front bumper, `that was there when it came in` i was in formed......there wasnt a mark on it even after the accidenr as i hit a curb at low speed. so i said is it your policy to replace scratches in new paint work on newly fitted panels that you fit? that went on for a while. when i finaly did get it back i drove it to my local garage for an mot, the dash fell on to my lap almost, must have been removed for the airbags. i wish id took the pay out now. i sold it at a great loss 4 days later. the repair costs where well in excess of what id paid for it but the total loss offer was less than i sold it for. although my no claims bonus was covered my insurance doubled on the next car. never again.
No company would repair your landy to the extent you did unless you are prepaired to put up with constant refusalls to except the workmanship to your standard. id go for more money though and settle for what theyve offered and keep the landy at no cost to you. youve done it once, why not do it again.
Good luck either way you decide to go.

I wouldnt want to be facing the legal battles and stuff with forcing them to fix it, but its your vehicle.
You might be able to offer less than 750 as they will be shelling ouyt every day to store it, and then dispose of it if you dont want it.

Well here is an update chaps! The insurance folks paid up £4250 and I keep the wreck which means I got my 'agreed' valuation after all. I've lighted upon a coil sprung galv chassis so the yellow peril may well ride again! I have a long shopping list but mostly I just need a new body now!! Actually the bulkhead maybe OK which means new wing, tub and let the fun begin!

stripping down????

bit of filler and some duct tape, sorted.

maybe paint it orange so the next d***head sees it, that yellow colour really blends with the road.

good luck and have fun.
