Tried running it tonight Without NO thermostat but just the same temperature rising all the way up to 90s. Does this rule anything out or give anyone more clues as to what the problem can be ?

Is the radiator clean and clear inside? Can you see a temp difference top to bottom? Or is it still cold at the bottom?

Sounding like a water pump or blocked rad to me.

Radiator is new, there is about 10 degrees difference from top to bottom, ie if top is about 60 then bottom is around 50.

How's the temperature situation going
Sorry just seen this, been busy trying to solve other bloddy niggly problems,
Anyway think its sorted I fitted a new voltage regulator as the one I was using was an old second hand one, tested again idling and needle only went about 3/4 way up, after about 45 mins, give it a run out and needle stays about half way, not going in to the red anymore,
Speaking of test driving Had my first proper try today, only about 4 mile or so.
Must be honest it is a pig to drive, :)

brakes still not perfect but it does stop, Loud, heavy steering , slow, gears a bit hard to find, Think the carb needs a little tweaking so that may make a difference. a mate who has just about finished a rebuild had a go and he said it was better then his own to drive , wouldn't like to have a go of his if thats the case

First time I have drove a Series. Are they all like this ? suppose I will get used to it after a while.

glad you sorted it ,are the temperature readings the same from you gun as before, yes a different way of driving double clutching as no synchro in first and second and the no power steering
I know you can fit power steering one involves destroying the galv on the chassis but there must be a better way, such as anti crush tubes and a clamping configuration .the other is the altering the steering linkages with a expensive kit
i would like to ask a favour could you measure your dip stick from the collar sitting on the tube to the end and the distance from the end of the dip stick to the level mark as mine has been bodged and has several via a hack saw is could be from another vehicle

Yes will do that today, not sure where you mean , is it from collar at top of tube to bottom of stick down in the sump ?

yes collar at top of tube to bottom of stick and end of stick to fill mark please
If you need more let me know.
