I have my gear box apart and want to know if there is a proper way of determining if the bearings need to be replaced or not. Sight inspection is only good for visual deterioration, lesser forms? Or does everyone just simply put all new bearings in?? What is an approx. price for a complete set for the gear box and transfercase? Just a ball park in Dollars or Sterling is fine.

Some of the teeth show pressure wear, but that is to be expected..but not broken or damaged teeth.

Thanks you.

as well as sight , listen for noise when they are cleaned and fel for any roughness when you turn the races

theres probably quite a few sites on bearing wear if you google it, i just found one link below, as for prices, make sure you get good named makes as you know they will last longer, ideally get them at trade price fron a bearing supplier, generally they willl be standard imperial sizes so you can source them other tha LR suppliers if you wish, decent makes could be 4 or 5 times price cheap makes!
