Question...

If you have a 19J thats been stood for a year...

First thing you do is check the crank turns manually which it does easily...

Vehicle sits for about further 6 weeks whilst you fiddle with the auxillaries...starter etc...

Its doesnt get started or ran in this time...

Then all of a sudden you try to turn crank manually (BIG BREAKER BAR) and it wont budge...rock solid...

Is it really possible for the engine to seize like this under such conditions?

Or is something else possibly at play?

Correction...

Went back out - all of a sudden engine will crank but...

cranks easily to a point then stops but not with a solid stop - more of a bouncy stop ie when cranked until it will crank no more there is no thud/bang/knock...more springy stop.

It would easily crank anti clockwise if so desired.

Weird that it wouldnt budge this morning?

Maybe timing belt has slipped a few teeth and something is fouling inside engine. Are you sure a cylinder isn't filing with water, try removing glow plugs.
Why was the vehicle laid up originally?

'fiddle with the auxillaries...starter..."

I'd re-check whatever you fiddled with, especially the starter, or that the starter actually works freely. Take it off and turn the engine by hand maybe.

Not had a spanner or other implement drop across a belt and get wedged in a pulley? DAMHIKIJDOK ...

Sorry, when mentioned fiddled - just meant starter and tidying some wiring.

Will turn anti clockwise no issue but when turned clockwise reaches exact same point then stops ie rotate 1 back will rotate 1 forward, 3 back, 3 forward etc.

No, nothing such as tools etc blocking anything.

Still same with starter removed.

TIMING BELT...what would I be checking for?

Throwing rain down outside so wont be looking at it again until tomorrow.

Think Ive ruined a new starter trying to get engine going (before realising something was stopping it)- now throwing cog but not spinning it (tested it whilst out again).
