P38A 1999 - seatbelt warning light does not illuminate nor do I get any warning beeps to say 'Belt not fastened.

Now, this has been like this since I have bought the vehicle, I've just ignored it until now but am wondering if there is a fault or some clever previous owner has managed to disable this function.

Q1 - Can this function be disabled

Q2 - Is there a fault I should be looking for - eg - fuse - bulb in the dash not working (though I doubt this) every other 'Message Centre' function appears to be working. Ive checked the handbook and there does not appear to be a specific fuse for this function - any idea's ???:)

ok, thanks for that. Slightly confused though. Are all UK P38's seatbelt warnings deactivated??? My handbook says this function is one of several critical messages. Can this function be reactivated and if so how??

The seat belt buckle sensor is only fitted to certain markets as is the service reminder lamp.
If you read the owners manual, you will see that it states that some of the equipment shown can vary or is not fitted to certain models or territories.

The UK is one of them so dont get concerned.

So it does - on page one. You would think they would put an asterix next to the one's that do not apply in the UK.

I think I will rewrite the Handbook to read ' IF YOU ARE IN ANY DOUBT THEN CONSULT IRISHROVER

Q1.
Yes
Q2.
No

I've yet to see a U.K. P38 with the seatbelt warning activated.

One of THE BEST damn things on the car IMHO, I drove the mrs's Nissan Note t'other day ... FOOKIN BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP!! fer ages .....

(Should say here I Very rarely wear my belt as the damn arm rest get in the way of clippin it up!! + I'm Errrrr Rather "Portly" & it JUST fits around me its like being in a straight jacket......)

And just as I get it fastened I find I've left me Fags in my left pocket ...so OFF IT COMES AGAIN!!!

Hmmm thats interesting, I'll have to check, I'm sure I get a seat belt message on my 2000 DHSE, not sure if it's from the passenger seat though as I rarely use it on my own and I always put my belt on:confused:

I know its an old thread but rather this than starting a new one.
Ive just been out to drop the daughter back home and noticed when i turn ignition on the seatbelt warning light comes on for a few seconds (self test i presume) but that would insinuate i have seatbelt warning! But i often emm.. Drive without it and the light dont show so when i got home i had a quick look under the seat and althogh i didnt take any trim off i couldent see an sign of anything being tampered with. Asumeing the po has disabled it, were would he have cut to disable?

Seatbelt warning will come on with bulb check. It is normal.

It would be enabled/disabled in the BECM if it exists. Never seen one with it enabled nor any wiring that might be to do with it.

FWIW my seatbelt warning lamp illuminates too for a few seconds when ignition is turned on, but not if a belt is removed. I don't believe there's a sensor either. When I had Jaguar XJS many moons ago there was a pressure sensor mat in the base of the seat under the seat heater and a plug connector under the seat. I unplugged both as the alarm was very annoying! Anything on the passenger seat would trigger as would leaning forward in drivers seat occasionally!

Wearing a seatbelt should be habitual anyway so why would you want the system to nag you?

I would add however that whilst I agree with wearing a seatbelt, I strongly disagree with it being law to do so! Laws should be to protect us from each other not from ourselves and if I choose to kill myself, that's my concern not the governments...

I'd always assumed that it was only set to operate in the US

by setting the seat pressure pads to activate at about 30 stone !!!

:D

+1 if i want to drive without a seatbelt the only person thats gona get hurt from it is me so it should be my choice

But what about the poor little fecker how has to shovel you up into a fecking bin afterwards, that unfortunate sod will have to live with the visual memory of you all fecked up and spread across the ground like strawberry jam....

Kill yourself, fine I have no issue with that we decide our own fate, but have a thought for those that you will leave behind!

Not having a go, but I have seen first hand the mess that can be created when someone goes through a windscreen albeit from a distance - but that was bad enough...I would hate to be one up close and personal hosing your nut sack down the drain!

I see were you coming from and agree with that im not arguing but the point im trying to put is surly its a moral issue not a legal one

There is certainly no pressure pad or wiring for a seat belt sensor on my MY2000 DHSE, I've had the seat completely apart to repair the damage caused by an exploding side air bag so a pad would have been obvious.
