managed to get two front electric seats for peanuts

as the airbags have gone off in them

so plan to remove the leather and put my cloth covers on so it matches the rest of the car

can then swap over my seat airbags for these

there also heated but might not bother , think it involves quite abit to fit the extra bits

has anyone done this please, are they fairly easy to get the covers off or a night mare

may also get an armrest seeing the fixings are there , breakers i think for that

cheers guys

popped one of them under the stairs , it's just a shadow on the pic

You can sell those leather covers on, Loads of cars with tears or worn looking finish out there.

will be taking them off very carefully

bit dirty but think if i put a steamer over them will clean them up abit

originally was just going to cut them off, but then thought , not to in case i caught a wire and as u say about possibly selling them on

thks

stripped the first one down

well it doesnt seem the airbag has gone off

this is the passenger side ???

had enough for today , think i will strip this down tomorrow

seems though the other airbag hasnt gone off

will compare with this drivers seat

I s'pose it'll keep you out of mischief for an hour or two!

it indeed will :D:D

airbags look fine but know i can't test them , however thought of a cunning plan

when i have them both stripped down to the frames

disconnecting the battery leads, wait 30 x mins , then take my seats out

plug these seats in reconnect the battery , plug in my iid diagnostic , then run it to see if the airbags come up with any faults , as i know my seat airbags are fine

only way i can think of testing them

going to before hand , cut open the loom , remove the memory ecu and heated pad, will have to leave the passenger seat sensor in as i know that tied in with the seat belt warning light

remove any part of the loom i no longer need

then once all tested can then put all my cloth seat covers on

know it will take me a time , but not worried

think i'm in for some late nights and a multimeter though , lol

well i think i may have worked out how to save me a world of pain

famous last words

i've taken the back off , two bolts , seat cushion 4 x bolts

so in theory i should be able to just bolt my back and cushion on

but could put the frames in on there own, wire them up to have plenty of room and access, then test if each motor works

then if all ok can then put the back on and seat base

as it will save me having to take the back seat cloth cover off and also leave the air bag in situ

do a final check with the iid to see if any faults come up

what do u think guys or am i missing something

as i don't need the heating element or any memory module

also saving me to swap over covers , as i can change over the entire seat back

drivers seat is an 8 x way

passenger is a 6 x way

did think there was a motor in the back , but that all seems to be controlled from the frames seat base ...?????

If you want a factory finish for the heated seats then it would be a little tricky but still doable. Or you could just fit a switch in anywhere you can fit one! Wirings quiet easy, if youre not that confident Mobilecentre (I think) do plug and play looms for about £30.

Good job so far!

cheers mate

thought it easier in seeing if i can just swap the seat backs, heating is already fitted on the leather back and base. it would have to take all the covers off to get to the element

on d3s they have a different front heater section and dread to think what it would cost to replace it, but agree and sounds a good idea like u say of putting separate switches in , everything is there and just the case of getting the wiring etc to the seats

felt in a other way if it is worth taking all the back cover off, getting the heating element out and then getting it under the cloth seat covers

thks again , think possibly just using the seat frame base may be the way to go , on the drivers one the leather is scuffed around the back so really a throw away job

wondering also if i can find a seat wiring to put a 12 volt supply on it and test it all out in the comfort of my kitchen floor :D:D

You could also buy the Waeco heated seat kit, £50 for a pair maybe? Might be much easier!

thks , to be honest didn't realise u could buy a separate kit like that

would that be for the seat base only , now it seems i can just swap the seat backs over think that bit will save it being a nightmare in trying to get the cover off

seat base is bolted underneath with four bolts , which is simple enough , but looking at them they seem to have like a one way clip if that makes sense that secures the leather onto the seat base, looks as though the clip is put in whilst the leather is stretched then put in ,

will try and get a pic , difficult to see

what concerns me is refitting the seat covers to a factory standard , when i took the first one off before realising about the seat back swap, is they have cords etc inside that u have to tension , plastic clips as u go down the seat underneath

what i could do is get them in, the. research a bit more ref the clips and if maybe there's a special tool to get them out and back in again , or maybe the clips are throw away and need to buy new ones

one job i am dreading is when i have to try and get out the complete headlining to fit these side curtain airbags down the whole right hand side of the landy

think i'm going to wait till it warms up abit , measured it 42 inches wide 9 foot long

thks again

How come you put food out for your seats.
I've had mine ages and so far they don't seem to eat anything.
I take it they don't need water?;)

well everything has to eat;)

it's even worse when u kneel on an upturned screw:mad::mad:

holy crap that smarted

got the covers off and putting a nice fresh cushion

this is the drivers side

had enough for today:(:(

cup of tea i think and dinner

well seat cushion ready and will then sort out the wiring

drivers side , will bypass all the memory ecu, not worried as it's only me driving and it all links in through the folding mirrors

not worth paying out extra just for this , can't warrant the money

plus thought i better take a pic of underneath the seat frame

otherwise will get a spanner thrown at me for failing again as an apprentice :p:p:D:D

would never hear the end of it
