Hi all,

I need some advice on the seats for a 1990 2.5TDi 3-Door Disco. The Passenger seat will not latch on the rails so keeps sliding on acceleration and braking. I have taken them apart as best I can but I am assuming they are too worn.

I am also having trouble trying to get the driver's seat out as I cannot seem to get the seat far enough forward on the rails to remove the 2 rear bolts that hold the seat to the frame. I need to weld up some of the frame and have to get the seat off for access.

Any advice, help, contacts would be really appreciated as it is due it's MOT soon so I need to get it sorted.

Cheers,
JB

seems to be a common problem on discos. my 1991 has had its seat rails done. they were done when i bought it so cannot give you any diy advice.

as a stop gap for the MOT. you could get a mig welder to weld the seat rails permanently fixed. should be possible to weld them in situ?
(without setting fire to the disco!).

just me thoughts.

Hi i've had the same problem a few years ago on the last disco i had, as far as i remember there is a stop bolt somewhere stopping the seat sliding off the rails you prob need to find it and remove it (one on each rail as far as i remember) first to get at the two bolts holding the seat in.
As far as the seat sliding forward and back if you take the seat out you should see where the pin goes into the slide holding the seat in place if its worn try bending it a bit it might just last a good while. i did it and it lasted till we traded in the disco for another. i've also had to weld up the frame as the seat went down. i got it back as new after welding nearly every joint. the seat is fine now and working perfect as its a 3 door disco.

Had the same problem on my 91 discovery, ended up unbolting the seats from the car to remove them and undoing the bolts that way, replaced the seat frame with one already welded and braced but still had no joy with it moving back and forth when on the move. In the end I found it easier just to drill through the runners whilst the seat was fixed in the vehicle and bolted it in place. (only I drive it so it suits me fine!) Means I can't adjust my front seats back and forward but they've been set with plenty of space so who cares! It'll get you through the MOT at least.
