My 96 v8 4.6 makes a light metallic scraping noise but only when I press the accelerator. It seems to be from the left side of the driving position. I have had the wheels off the ground and turned them but I cant hear anything obvious underneath. Have recently greased propshafts, changed diff / transfer box / gearbox oil. Any ideas what I should be checking ?

I have the same car and the same noise.

I have failed to trace it too. I thought perhaps worn front diff or bearings in the diff.

Mine's been doing it for a while, and I just ignore it now! There's so much moving and whirring under there I'm not even sure it not just the natural sound of the drive train.

Did it start after changing atf? maybe level low/high

No, it has been present since I got the car. I was hoping the ATF change might help, but not so. Its like a brake scraping noise, but they seem clear, including the handbrake, and its only happening when on the accelerator pedal.

worn diff as Gorsky says, mine had a little of it but since changing atf & diff oil twice with a bit of oil stabiliser in it has near vanished,
used Lucas 75w 90 in diffs & Lucas atf with added stop slip

Thanks everybody. I guess a worn diff makes sense. Thats another job on a very long list then !

I hadn't thought of that Data.

Next time I'm under there I'l have a look for some signs of something touching the exhaust.
