Hi Guys,
Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this weird scraping noise whilst driving my 51plate Freelander 1.8s??;)
Had it serviced today but they want it back for a thorough investigation whilst also replacing the brake pipes and exhaust (only had it 6months - ouch!!) Thought I might be able to go in there with a few ideas next week to show them that women are interested in what's under the bonnet and not just how much shopping they can fit in the boot!!!!!!

Blimey that was a quick reply..............
Yes, the scraping gets worse the further you turn the wheel, thought first of all it was the brakes but garage dismissed that one. Sounds like a metal on metal noise though!!! Does that help?

Welcome Highlandrover :D

So this scraping noise is coming from the steering wheel / steering column area? Does it scrape when turning the steering wheel when stationary or does it only happen when the vehicle is in motion?

How much shopping will your Freelander hold in the boot with the cover on?

What colour is your Freelander?

M
Noise only there when in motion and not stationery. Brakes stick when stationery though so that's another thing to mention.

Freelander boot can fit one large dog, his bed, box of food and still enough room to swing the cat, although don't know if suspension would cope with a dog n' cat chase inside!! In other words, plenty of shopping for a typical day out.

Ps. Freelander is that metallic blue - Azure blue is it?

Why? Is it only this colour it happens too - or perhaps it's just women drivers? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!! :)
Or..................... are you trying to tell me I do too much shopping and shouldn't overload the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! x

Yeah, the colour worries me to be honest.

If this noise only occurs when in motion I would suggest the wheel/tyre may be rubbing on something under the wheel arch (brake pipe maybe).

I wonder if you resprayed the car it would sort the problem? Nah, that's just silly and I'm not silly am I Mondo ;-)

@Tiny, Highlandrover managed to get an avatar pic uploaded, why can't you?

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm, now there's a thought. Re-spray the car the colour of my shoes - but wait, which colour do I chose I have so many shoes!!!!!!

Cheers

Wouldn't fancy coming across either of you in daylight, let alone a dark alley going by your avatars!!!!!

Ps. That's me on the right.........................

yer but at least wot i wear goes with....erm ....most things:rolleyes: :p

Looks more like my costume for the RNLI raft race two years ago - no offence intended as I'm sure you blend in fantastically with the locals:D

Iwould go with the Mondo on this one sounds like cv joints, remember Earthling on your planet youve gravity and central fugal forces and fings so all that grease in the rubber thing dont always make it to the bearings . . . so every year or so squeeze ya rubber bits ,helping ta get fresh grease in the nooks und crannies ,also remember its a 4x4 so do all four, easy really. Tiny get a grip. . .:D
