Superleggera chassis

Dug the bulkhead out of the shed where it's resided for the last few years



Quite a lot of surface rust in it but it cleans up ok with the wire brush



Needs some repair panels around the vents



Also uncovered the engine from it's slumber





And that's what one of the holes is for

Ooo,

Twas time to get the angle grinder out today and get noisy.

Lots of offering up and double checking



Then after lots of cutting disks had got chewed through it was time to tack it on



A bit of grinding later



My welding mask packed up halfway through and just as I was working on the other side I dropped the angle grinder and bust it
Not good as I'd only just got a new welding mask as my other one had packed up

Even plugged some screw holes in the dash panel


Time for a shower and a nap

About time i put some progress up.....

Had a welding and mock up fest just to make sure that everything lines up




And a couple of hours on the sander
I dunno how I'm going to get on getting stuff galvanised now though

Bit of priming.....




Was an option between painting or mowing

Thought I'd better catch up a bit
I tried rollering paddocks paint and it was really orange peely

So more sanding disks were purchased and I dug out my spray gun and had a bash.




Still far from perfect but it'll pass....

Had a bash at riveting anorl....





Offered up the lights...



Then put the side capping on...

I did some welding on my brothers alfa a while ago and as payback he bought me repo glass lights which age it nicely...


Put the tailgate back together and put my new number plate on....


Finished painting the bulkhead today and my lad gave me a hand to put it on...

Swapped the wiring loom over from the wreck I bought but it's knackered so the good wife is letting me buy a replacement
I treated myself to an old series 2a rad anorl
Managed to finish off the night getting a wing on then called it a night


Roll on tomorrow

Well this was as far as I managed to get yesterday....



Ordered a new loom this morning along with a couple of other bits and pieces.

To knackered today got the cat flap on and primered the hinges


And I caught my finger with the angle grinder

Got the sill, inner wing and door on but I've lost the door capping

Tomorrow I'm going to tackle the accelerator pedal and linkage, hopefully I haven't lost to much of that either

What once was dented and daubed with thick cracked green paint is now stripped, primed and dented




Can't grumble for 75 quid I suppose but it'll sort the homemade window issue with the van sides so it's not all bad...

Cat flap can go on Ebay on the weekend along with a few other bits.

Dunno what to think about LED headlights

Today's job was a simple one of replacing the thermostat

One of the bolts snapped off unsurprisingly

I don't think it's seen antifreeze for a while

Tried drilling the stud out



But the little bastid didn't want to come out

So an afternoon visit to machine mart was is order for their helicoil ripoff kit


5 minutes later


All bolted back together with some copper slip



Even swapped the leaky rad for this one I've had in the spare bedroom for 4 years




Just waiting for the wiring loom and get the steering arms in, the latter of which I'll hopefully do tomorrow if the track rod ends turn up...



Chop the old fog lights off anorl

Friday was spent getting the windows in the truck cab, it only took half a dozen attempts


Need to sort out some sort of locking device for the windows as mine are missing and they are now obsolete
On the plus point though I stripped and cleaned the spark plugs and removed the breathers from the inlet manifold, chucked 20 litres of fuel in and they presto she runs Ticks over nice and quiet...
Today I've replaced the track rod ends and replaced steering bars so for the first time in 5 years it now steers. Started putting the accelerator pedal back in and what a over engineered thing that is But and it's a big but it meant I could get the wing back on



Then I finally wheeled it back and had a bloody good sweeping up session

So what you need is B&Q into the decorative wood section find some of the small square wood that’s fits in the lower glass channel. Put a small nail into it so you can remove to open window.
