Right i know there are alot of threads out there for this so i'm sorry to be repetitive.
How meny different types of sankay are there? i know of wide track, narrow track and wolf spec (have i missed any?). what are the differences between these? what are the specs on them weight, hight, width, length, ground clearance? do they use land rover parts? how difficult are they to repair/maintain, what are the prices on them and the best place to find them?

Sorry for all the questions i'm looking to get one in the future so i want to find out first :)

well thers a high speed, it has disc brakes not the standard drum as the wide tracks have, thers drop tails etc, just a variation in bodys,

ther was a lot made for portable generators, water bowsers, kitchens etc,

they dont use many LR parts really , the prices are hugely different depending on condition , i paid £120 fer mine , it wer mint , from a local farm sale. they fetch up to £350 on a good day and at the least £80 fer a rough one,

as ther short sometimes they can be hard to reverse as the land

the landrover wont follow it quick enogh due to the lock ;)

iv used them for way over what they are rated at, with no problems, just keep an eye on the position of the springs

The older ones are called narrowtracks and these are best suited to series vehicles. You can tell a narrowtrack by the lack of a dropdown tailgate. the Tub is completely solid.

After that came the widetrack which follows defenders better, this has a dropdown tailgate and drum brakes (MKII?)

The "wolf" version you refer to is the latest release (MKIII) like the above only it has disk brakes and a different handbrake configuration. This latest version is regarded as the best, but the disks are not LR parts (they are Ford IIRC).

either of the widetracks would suit your discovery but I would seriously consider the hitch height issue before you commit. These were designed to be used with a NATO hitch attached directly to the cross member of a defender. bear in mind these mil. spec. defenders have HD springs (~+1") and run 7.50 tyres (32") and STILL tow nose down. I think it would be difficult for you to get one to tow level or even slightly nose down on a stock discovery.

food for thought.

They look silly on Disco's my widetrack sits dead level but I'm on 37 inch tyres lift on a defender. My dad has made a plate to go as high as possbile on his standard disco to within a mil of clearance on the nato hitch when opening the rear door and it just looks silly TBH

with reference to keeping an eye on the springs, mine was seriously overloaded to the point that the springs were completely flat leaving me about 30mm of travel in the suspension, my remedy was to fit a couple of matching mono-shocks, basically coil over shocks in place of the standard shocks, the springs are rated at approx 300 kilo each and it has given the carrying capacity back and suspension travel. Up to date we are in Romania having driven just over 2000 miles with no problems at all.

Good to hear alls ok. You having fun??

I presume thats aimed at me? If so yeah having a good time chilling out waiting for our visas, maybe another month of doing nothing at all, then we are heading north again to enter Russia from Estonia, then it's the long haul to Mongolia, we are currently with Cassie from Landyzone, we crossed into Holland together then split up, 3 weeks later they drive onto the same campsite as us, no e-mails, no phone calls etc.

sorry it took so long :)

Sorry for commenting on a very old post, but do you know which Ford matches the Sankey trailers discs?

Thank you.
