i know its the same old story veg oil but wanted to know if anyone knows of or heard of a mark one? renault diesel fuel heater which i could attach to my disco to warm my cooking oil up. Someone i met recently explained the theory to me but i havent seen them since. The other thing they mentioned could be quite useful if you dont have a spare fuel filter with you when using oil is piece of bent pipe which will when attached will bypass your fuel filter and get you home. YET TO MAKE ONE MYSELF but any one any tried and tested patterns please let me know.:D :D

Why would you want to bypass the filter? If you feed the injection pump with unfiltered diesel expect problems - if your at the stage you need to bypass a fuel filter then there is something wrong. Carry a spare filter and use it to get you home instead of fooling about with pieces of pipe.

Exactly! Fuel filter £4 and 5 min job to change, bypass pipe - same amount of time to "change" but £500+ engine rebuild!

you don't need to heat your oil. the oil from the tank is fed through a pipe that is no more than 4mm in diameter so the oil is already heated up by the time it reaches the injectors if you encounter trouble starting just weaken the ratio until the weather warms up and never bypass your fuel filter you could fook your engine, injector pump etc

MORAL:

NEVER EVER LISTEN TO "EXPERTS" !

Almost always they have no idea what they are talking about!

Speak to people who YOU KNOW have real practical experience instead.

The Renault fuel heater your referring to is the oilfilter housing on some peugeots and possibly renaults had a water jacket that used the water from the cooling system to heatup the fuel filter. But by the time it kicks in you'll have been driving for 15/20 minutes anyway.
