Salisbury axle spreader

Good day to all.

Who here has rebuilt a Salisbury axle?

Do you have to use a axle spreader or does the tool just make the job easier?

Is there info in the 300tdi book (the big green book) on how far to spread the casing?

ive built a lot and you dont need a spreader, there should be 5 thou preload on diff carrier bearings, that will tap in and lever out without a spreader
